Holgorsen speculation shifts to West Virginia
Published: 12/14/2010 12:56 AM

After a long day of tracking a variety of rumors, this is the only Dana Holgorsen certainty: He was in Stillwater on Monday, preparing a game plan for Oklahoma State’s Dec. 29 meeting with Arizona in the Alamo Bowl.

But while at his desk in the west end of Boone Pickens Stadium, Holgorsen was the subject of a great deal of speculation in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette now reports that Holgorsen no longer is involved in the University of Pittsburgh’s head-coaching search, but could wind up in the top job at Pitt’s No. 1 rival – West Virginia University.

West Virginia’s Bill Stewart coached the Mountaineers to nine victories this season, but, reportedly, could be pushed out by new athletic director Oliver Luck. On Dec. 28, West Virginia faces North Carolina State in the Champs Sports Bowl.

“A termination” of Stewart, the Post-Gazette reports, “could happen regardless of the outcome.”

Attempts to contact Holgorsen on Monday were unsuccessful. He did respond to a couple of text messages, but would not address any of the Pitt or West Virginia reports.

Holgorsen has coached the Cowboys to national rankings of No. 1 in total offense (538 yards per game), No. 2 in passing (355-yard average) and No. 3 in scoring (44.9-point average).

It is not known whether Holgorsen, who makes $360,000 at OSU, has met with Cowboy athletic director Mike Holder and head coach Mike Gundy for the discussion of possible contract adjustments.

If it's not a lateral OC move to Texas or Florida it's Pitt, if it's not Pitt it's West Virginia, if it's not WV it's Vandy.
It's really about whether DH wants to be a head coach now, or stay improve his stock some more and shoot for some major head coaching positions the after the next year or 2.

Maybe USC?

I'd think it's time to improve the stock. Pitt and WVU aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Dana seems like the type to lead the lap dog media on a wild goose chase just to do it.

I wonder if LSU has had enough of Les Miles and has it's eyes on DH? Let's start ANOTHER rumor!

And YES, he did interview for the Pitt Job! !

The West Virginia situation would make any candidate stop and ponder...they are interviewing for a position that is filled with a coach that won 10 games for West Viriginia this year.

Get hired as Head Coach in Waiting, and wait for the ax to fall on a successful, but not successful enough head coach????

Pass on this...there will be better opportunities coming up after the bowl games.

Domo, your credibility on everything Holgorsen seems to be a bit weak. Your pronouncements of the Pitt decision were way off.

It would seem like the best long term solution for DH would be to have another great year at OSU with Weeden, Blackmon, Randall and Smith. By then, the UT job should be wide open.

I know it's the slow part of the season and more than that, Haisten has an obligation to report this, but this is starting to get a bit absurd.

It's not Pitt...so it must be West Virginia!!! Oh, now it's not West Virginia...so it must be the Boston Red Sox!!!

There's a reason why Holgorsen isn't responding to any calls and hardly any text messages. This is becoming a bit of the boy who cried wolf. At first it was interesting when it started with Texas...then Florida...then Pitt, etc. but now it's become a dart board with a bunch of schools' names on it.

Where will the next dart land??? A Japanese pro football team!

MexiMike, I don't think Holgorsen would like the hotels in Japan.
But What Do I Know? (2 years ago)
I heard he's interviewing for the TU basketball job.

Speculation....Speculation....Speculation!!!!! I wish I could just write a bunch of non-factual nonsense and get paid for it like today's modern beat writers. I thought they were suppose to write and report THE FACTS?????? Why not just write about bigfoot?? There is speculation that he exists.....????? Guess it doesn't take a degree to work for a newspaper or news station. These OK newspapers are turning into the ENQUIRER. Like Gundy says..."IT'S GARBAGE"!!!

Good comments today boys. Is DH going to take another OC job and wait around for WV to maybe fire their coach after a possible 10 win season - this year, next year or maybe someday? I will believe it when I see it.
