Can you believe that you get this blog free of charge?

It's one of the biggest sports stories of this or any other year.

At no other site in this galaxy can you get such multi-sport cross-picking, such high-level tasking: 15 out of the last 16 picks successful against the spread, the most recent being the oft-heckled selection of Texas over OU in hoops.

Made last Wednesday.

Tuning in here is like a time-travel experience where you get to look back at the near future.

So what's a reader to do, sitting there in your parent's extra bedroom, looking absurd with your ball cap on backwards? What's a reader to do, sneaking a peek at this site at work, when you should be getting your job applications out? What's a reader to do, now that the Picker knows more about your beloved teams than you do? What's a reader to do, listening to a lonely guy call in to sports talk radio to say the same thing?

How is a reader to reciprocate for getting so much for so little?

Here's a five-step program aimed at easing reader guilt.

1. Give a little something to charity, food for the hungry, something like that.

2. Put some music on the radio.

3. Apologize for going against one of these picks.

4. Open yourself to the act of giving praise.

5. Check out the nearby advertisements and suppport that which fits your place in life.

Two OU questions: What could Capel have been thinking, playing Pattillo only 14 minutes against Texas (which pretty much stinks)?

Has it ever dawned on anybody that maybe Sam Bradford doesn't want to be a pro quarterback all that much?

What no pick on the game tonight?
But What Do I Know? (4 years ago)
Picker you're the greatest man! THE FAT JACK don't have nothin' over you.
MexiMike (4 years ago)
This is simply absurd! You are justifying your Texas pick over an OU team that lost their star player (and #1 pick in this coming draft) early in the game! If Griffin didn't suffer the concussion, that game would have been OU's easily!

Let me guess at the genius that spews out of your mouth next:

The 49ers wouldn't have won Superbowls without Joe Montana.

If the Bulls didn't have Michael Jordan, they wouldn't have dominated the NBA in the 90's.

Woah, slow down there, oh great one. Your knack for the obvious is too much to fathom.

Picker, are you insinuating that the majority of the readers of this most popular blog are imposing on their parents by taking up the extra bedroom? I'll have you know that I do not live in the extra bedroom, this one's been mine for 46 years now and besides, they have two more bedrooms that are not in use.

Your blog is 3rd best on this site. Also, ssshhhhh don't let NFL GM's and scouts know about Bradford's lack of desire to play at the next level. You could cost the kid millions.
Ignatz (4 years ago)
Bradford appears to be pretty smart despite that deer in the headlights look. He knows he'll make more with a bonus NFL high draft sign-up than his other option, selling cars in Norman.

1. The real miracles of life are when one does “give” their time, their assets, their abundance to another in need of hospitality. Like the ‘Snicker giving those free picks. It’s when things like the government that “force” giving because they say they know what’s best! Reminds me of bloggers like Vern.

2. Scott Joplin? Tex Ritter? Satchmo? Jimmy Rogers? Coldplay? Barney?

3. Yep, could’ve made some $$$$ by taking them Cardinals & the pt. spread throughout the playoffs! Thanks ‘Snicker

4. I’m thankful our country is going deeper in debt, that other worldly societies are bent on destroying the rest of us with their self-inflicted ideology, & that people think that their opinion has value. @ least da’ Snicker gets some sort of penance for all those wisecracks & words of wit.

5. Does the Animal Aid Shelter count?
BobSmith007 (4 years ago)
Why the heck would Bradford want to work for a living? He's 21. He's got one thing on his mind and it ain't football. Why shortchange the BMOC thing. He can have anyone, er...anything he wants!

Here is a cookie.
Enjoy.
I will go bow down to your picture now.

Greg, don't you think it's time for your parents to get a place of their own?

MexiMike, got your excuses ready for when Missouri mops the floor with OU's alleged point guards?

Ignatz, wouldn't you feel better in this economy taking pictures of somebody's car that gets better mileage?

Laff, the animal shelter is a great choice.
It's where the City of Spiro Gyro got Vern.

Lance, well done.

What Do I Know, Fat Jack, is he the one who CHARGES for picks? If he's so good, why charge? Just go bet. He couldn't carry our swizzle stick.

And now, some basketball talk.

Why did Texas beat OU? Point guard.

Why did Kansas beat OU? Point guard.

Why are North Carolina and Pitt 1,2?: Point guards.

Any questions?

The next pick to take our recent record to 16 of 17 against the point spread, which is impossible, is apt to be Missouri over OU next week.

Point guards....Point guards.....Point guards ??

Griffin.....Griffin....Griffin......waiting to find out if he will play against Mizzou before you make the pick?

The Picker (4 years ago)
Arby's Roast Beef With Mild Sauce: I don't need any stinking information to make a hoop pick.

Didn't Griffin play at Arkansas?

Where the OU point guards made 63 turnovers?
Arbythree (4 years ago)
Ditto Williams42.
The Picker (4 years ago)
William 42, on neutral courts, yeah, I absolutely think KU is as good as OU.

Texas, no.

The possibility exists that outside OU and KU, and Missouri at home only, the Big 12 is average.

Has everybody conveniently forgotten about Arkansas? Which is barely a .500 team?

Without a proven point guard against top level competition, it's anybody's guess how good OU really is.

One thing working in OU's favor -- the shots hit by the opposing guards in last two games were absurd. The KU offense was the guy dribbled off 25 seconds and then made 25-footers.

Missouri has no center. So how could the Tigers possibly stay on the floor with OU in Columbia?

That's it: guards.

MexiMike (4 years ago)
Pick, OU stayed close with Texas the whole way.

They also gained a good lead to begin the game against Kansas. They then fought back to make it either team's game late in the 2nd half.

Are you honestly telling me that if Blake Griffin had been out there in full health, it still wouldn't have mattered? That poor guard play--which still kept the games close--would have doomed OU either way?

To think that I used to defend you...sheesh.

I agree that their guard play is the weak link and the fact they had to rely on it the last two games did inevitably determine the outcomes.

So here's a free one for you: If Griffin plays against Mizzou, OU wins. If he does not play at all, Mizzou wins. I'll happily eat the humble pie if he plays and they still lose...I just don't see it happening.
The Picker (4 years ago)
Of course Missouri will beat OU with or without Griffin.

Just like Arkansas did.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
