Hoosier puts Stoops on the 'hot seat'

This ought to start your week with a jolt...

A young Hoosier by the name of Frank Therber has penned a column for the Indiana Daily Student entitled "Stoops on the hot seat in Norman?"

Concerning Oklahoma's loss to Florida last January, Mr. Therber writes: "A contender from the Big 12, whose players competed in two BCS games in a row and scored 60-plus points five straight times to close out the season, should put up a better performance.

"There is no question Stoops is a quality coach and motivator, but the 'it' often referred to in sports has seemed absent in recent years. We saw it with Lloyd Carr at Michigan as his career came to an end. His Wolverines went 0-3 in the Rose Bowl the 2003, 2004 and 2006 seasons. Two of those losses were double-digit blowouts to USC.

"The loss to mid-major Boise State at the conclusion of the 2006 season wasn’t enough to put Stoops on the hot seat. Sometimes, it just happens teams have an off-game at the worst time. But two more BCS losses, with one coming in the title game? Time to wonder."

Three thoughts...

Stoops' seat is as cozy as ever, BCS setbacks and all.

That's about the 25th time Stoops has been placed alongside Carr since the Gators took a bite out of him. It's as wrong now as it was the first time it happened. Comparing Stoops to Ohio State's Jim Tressel to make a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately point is fine. But Carr? The Sooners' boss deserves much better.

I will give Therber this: He pumps a little life into college journalism. I've read "the demise of America's newspapers" story so often lately that I wonder if J-schools need bother any longer. And while I think this particular student's platform is a little rickety, at least his editor allows him to step out onto one in the first place. Cool.

Wonder if he'd be as critical if Stoops was the head man in Indiana. Somehow I doubt he would. This guys thoughts aside, there isn't a college coach out there I'd trade Stoops for.

Indiana should put up a better performance at football......

What failed to account for is Stoops has won ! NC and played for the NC 4 times and has won the Big 12 Championship more than any other Coach or school , Carr can't began to match that.Thats what happens when to decisde to be stupid by writing something stupid.
