How Many Times?
Published: 1/8/2010 12:47 PM
Last Modified: 1/8/2010 12:50 PM

Did we warn you 18 times?

Fifty four times?

Did we tell you 111 times?

Seven hundred and fourteen times?

A thousand times?

You cannot run the quarterback option today in big-time college football and survive. Safeties weigh 225. Linebackers weigh 260. Linemen weigh 300. All can run and can knock your block off. Anybody seen the Baylor quarterback? Poor Robinson of OSU tried to run versus Oregon a year ago and was never the same. And now McCoy has to run the option against Alabama's rockets; bye, bye, national championship.

How many times have we suggested the following to you, 300 times? Six hundred and eighty times? Eleven hundred and four times?

We put on local sports talk radio and hear the following from OKC and Tulsa: Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas.

We put on ESPN and heard: Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas.

DON'T LISTEN TO THEM: We had Alabama easily. Run it back and see for yourself. This bowl season, we had Stanford to stay with OU, we had Mississippi to clobber OSU, we had Alabama to win it all. Anything else we can get for you?

Here's what else mattered:

Bad news for the Big 12, the new Texas quarterback is fantastic.

They got the Heisman Trophy right, the Alabama man can run.

How far is OU removed from today's top, and what can be done to close the gap?

Run the stinking football. The SEC is great because it pounds your guts out inside -- average quarterbacks, great running. As reported earlier in the season, the spread is, if not dead, wounded, and gimmicky. Get back to basics. Recruit some tough runners and man up and crush somebody, enough with wimpy ball.

In breaking news, also reported in the Picks yesterday, the OU hoop coach needs to win a game or two before showboating for the press.

Instead of sending gifts for the Bama lock, donate a little something to those who feed and house the needy.

Bingo. And I'm betting Nebraska gets the message faster than OU, and will be Texas' only competition next year.

Texas at Nebraska Oct. 16 will be a spectacle.

It is also rumored that Boise plays somebody good, Virginia Tech possibly.

Why is Ingram on the bench half of the time? I haven't seen them play that much...is it always like this? If he's tired, how will he ever make it in the NFL? They looked like a spread offense at first. How dumb is that? Play right in to Texas's hands.

The last time OU beat Texas was with Adrian Peterson running the ball...enough said! Boise plays Oregon State at home and Va. Tech on the road. The game early on is Miami(Fl) @ Ohio State.

Wilson, somebody said he was having calf cramps. Like it isn't hot in Alabama. His sub wasn't bad, was he.

Trapper, exactly, focus on recruiting some runners for a change, enough of the ballet dancing. Boise at Va Tech, now that's a non-conference football game. Miami looks a little fragile. But that's a nice game.Concerning the Bama win, or more to the point, the Texas loss: the streak is intact -- nobody has ever scheduled itself to a national championship with a rotten pre-conference slate.

9 yards, 8 yards, 9 yards, 11 yards...

Yea, Ingram is a stud alright.

Been saying the same thing re "option QB" for years. Very hard to believe that OU/Texas can't recruit Heisman contender runners (the Stanford kid was more like an old Nebraska fullback). What happened to that traditon?

They don't know they're Heisman candidates until AFTER they get to school and play a little, Ig.  And they don't exactly grow on trees.

Yeah Pick, that spread didn't work out at all last year (2008) for OU did it?  Seems like we set a bunch of records and played pretty even with Florida using it.
Marathonman (3 years ago)
Picker,  As I recall, you also called for The U to obliterate the slow-footed Badgers, ARIZONA over Nebraska (Seriously!?!), Houston over the option-running Air Force, Missouri over Navy and Tennessee to cover vs Va Tech.

At least make an attempt to report in a balanced manner, Mr. Olberman wannbe.

the texas qb was good lay off the pipe picker that kids a baby. Thank god we got landry

Mr. Picker,
What about telling us what your record was this bowl season against the spread? Marathonman made a great point. Not one word about the games that you picked wrong.

I agree with you on that stupid option play. I don't understand why Texas and OSU run that play. This isn't the 1970's. Yeah, what about getting back to running the football and play-action passing. That's what they do at the NFL level. The SEC does it right on offense. The SEC gets players more ready for the NFL than the Big 12.

Texas got to where they were at by running the QB, 13-1 record isn't bad.

I must admit, Picker. You rock!

"...we had Mississippi to clobber OSU..."

Really, Pick? A game that realistically was 14-7 with a garbage TD at the end is a "clobbering?"

Also, didn't you also say in a recent blog that the final score was "fiction" anyway because of the game-changing horrendous calls and non-calls made by refs in that game?

Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

I suggest that by anyone's standard, Alabama is the rightful National Champion.   Ergo . . . the system works.   And . . . it was concluded before March Madness begins.  Life is good!
The Picker (3 years ago)
Somebody said the Alabama quarterback played with a cracked rib.

Which could have been why it didn't win by 30.

"A game that realistically was 14-7"

-MexiMike

That is such a beautiful comment!!  I love it when people make stupid statements!  No, Mike, the game was realistically 21-7 and Ole Miss dominated OSU up front on both sides of the ball.

I couldn't give two you know what's who won the game, but someone's gotta speak up when amazingly dumb comments are made.

Now, here's something for you to chew on, OSU was the most overrated college football team of the past 10 years.  To think these clowns were ranked in the top 5 at one time, now that's a fraud!  Every time OSU came up against a good team, they lost.
MexiMike (3 years ago)
Wow Golden Hurricane, your lack of football knowledge is only trumped by your lack of English comprehension.

Read the whole sentence next time. The game was 14-7 with A GARBAGE TD AT THE END. Thus, making the final score 21-7.

Ol' Miss did not dominate OSU up front on both sides. In fact, OSU had more sacks than Ol Miss did in that game which means OSU's front lines ON BOTH SIDES played better.

You're a TU fan and you're calling the OSU football team "Clowns?" Really? That's hilarious. By the way, we were ranked 5th in the nation when we had a healthy Robinson, a healthy Hunter, and a certain NFL top 10 pick named Dez Bryant. I know that you aren't accustomed to having talent like that so it is difficult for you to understand that when you lose all three in one way or another (along with many others throughout the season), your team is going to suffer greatly.

Later chump.
