How to Pick

One way to find winners is through losers.

Bad teams tend to stay that way.

If you find somebody that can't win, presto, there's your winner, the other side.

Last week was a gold mine when it came to bad or overrated teams playing pitifully -- Arizona, USC, Florida State, those teams didn't stand a chance.

This week it's tougher. Nebraska is overrated, but its number at Wisky is huge, it's an underdog at more than 9. Clemson, Virginia Tech, both decent. Same with Texas and Iowa State. Ball State is better than envisioned, having beaten Indiana and mauled Army.

SMU could be bad. It was obliterated by the Aggies. Had there been five more minutes in the game, TCU would have beaten Baylor. TCU should stomp SMU.

Also, Arkansas might not be as bad as its score versus Alabama indicated, as td's against came on kicks and turnovers.

Texas at Iowa State will be a treat to watch, as both have quality players at the skilled positions. Laughing at Texas is wishful thinking. Feels like a toss-up.

Today's tip is sometimes picking losers is easier.

Hate to see a guy get fired midseason, but it could happen to Mike Stoops any minute...hasnt won in almost a calender year...

Arizona won their opener against, I believe, Northern Arizona. Not a quality win, but still a win. I hope they keep Mikey Stoops around at least until OSU plays them next year. Makes the win more enjoyable.

Wisconsin, in my humble opinion, appears to be a monster.... but the number (9 1/2 this morning) is huge.

Wisconsin will win by at least 10.

TCU's pass defense will look suspect again against SMU.

I'm not touching Clemson v. Va-Tech. That's definitely a toss up.

When the Pick says that the Texas/Iowa State game is a "toss up," isn't that laughable enough just as a statement?

Texas is not back. Iowa State will keep it close if not win it outright.

Mike Stoops is the biggest flop in college football.

Interesting about the ex-OU coaches, isn't it, what failures they have become.

That's worth its own blog.

Train, you're right, that is a huge number. But outside of the transfer qb, Wisky has a history of running in the same place a lot. Tough game, tough number. Aboyt all the Nebraska quarterback can hit is the ground. But the tailback is tough. I'd lean toward Nebr.

Mike Leach did pretty well at Tech. I wouldn't say he's a failure necessarily. Looks like he may be the new head coach at New Mexico.

Mexi: where did you hear that about Leach to UNM? That would be sweet.

No. Wisconsin IS a monster. I guessed right
