Idiots Galore

The most unsettling thing connected to OU football this or any other season is the fact that so many people, from possibly coaches to certainy dopey media hacks, don't think OU should have played BYU.

The suggestion that OU should FEAR anybody is disgusting. Sooners Fear BYU. Put that over the dressing room door heading to the field.

And are so many so stupid as to fail to realize that playing a great schedule is the ONLY reason OU played for a national championship last year? Don't schedule down, play up.

Had OU not played BYU, then it would still be burdened with the wrong players playing; and a lack of competition would have doomed it versus TU, Miami and/or Texas. Playing bums is a loser's way of doing things. If great programs wish to lower themselves to the depths of cowardice, they can do so without our best wishes.

Anybody seen The Express on HBO - everyone could take a lesson.  Syracuse could have went with playing the lesser team and still acheived a NC - but instead chose to play Texas - so they could find out who was the best team.
Both the Big 12 and Big 10 have fared miserably the last few years against teams in the SEC and Pac 10.  I know we could argue forever who is the better conference - but facts is facts - both OU and Ohio State left the USC & Florida game with their tail between their legs.  If you can't play with the big boys in the beginning of the season how do you expect to compete at the end?

Exactly precisely.

Except there is no argument, the SEC is obviously the best as all records clearly indicate.

SEC Best? Maybe - I believe that each conference has it's stars and it's duds and plenty of guys in the middle to make it interesting.  But if you want to claim that you are the best - you need to play the best. Who was the last team to beat Florida in a bowl game?  GoBlue!

Hmm, seems like I've heard almost this exact same take before, word for word. I wonder where? Oh that's right, the Sports Animal, the Picker's #1 target. Mark Rogers said this exact same thing two weeks ago. Is it possible that the Picker is doing a little bit more than hating when he listens to the Animal?

For decades Paul Bryant played cupcakes all year long in order to prepare for a bowl game and possible "national championship" and was consistently rewarded by AP and UPI voters who kept picking them high no matter how close a Vanderbilt score may have been. Old habits are hard to break.

Along the same lines, it's great when Eschbach and Traber and Blevins say the only reason OU loses to Boises and WVirginias and BYUs is because they werent 'up' for the game... what a crock. They don't realize that in their attempt to make excuses for the Sooners, they make them look that much worse. No worse criticism than not being ready to play, whether it's Idaho St or USC.

So does it work in reverse, as well? Playing a pretender (Georgia) that you think is a contender leaves you unprepaired for an "ordinary" D-1 foe?

Quoting Mark Rogers, talk about a cry for help.....
Edgar, Norman (3 years ago)
Funniest thing is after bleating indignant for a half hour about Bob and Joe scheduling BYU, traber will then rant about how "sissified" our country has become because a game got called due to nearby lightening strikes, or a player won't be allowed to return to action after suffering a concussion.
You don't get it, the show is comedy, like the Stooges.

That's what I'm saying Picker. You must really be crying out for help because you just quoted Rogers almost word for word.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
