The city of Chicago -- and I am not kidding about this -- should stage a Rex Grossman Appreciation Day.
In case you were one of the three people who didn't watch the Super Bowl, Grossman was more or less the goat of the game. He had a couple of dropped snaps and threw two fourth-quarter interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown.
Why should Chicago honor him? Because he's their guy, like it or not, and you have to take care of your own.
Grossman is probably getting scalded on opinion forums today and being called every kind of nasty name imaginable. A person shouldn't have to live with the stigma of a bad game the rest of his life (have Bostonians forgiven Bill Buckner?).
Grossman probably feels badly enough without being at the bottom of a post-game, blame-game dogpile. One of these days, some sports figure is going to go out and commit suicide after something like this and we are all going to have to take a step back.
It's a ball game. It's not life or death.
Grossman is still a guy who helped Chicago get to the Super Bowl. Bears fans should try to make him feel better instead of burning him in effigy.
