Here are the big stories from the weekend.

POSING AND FLEXING.

Coaches who mug for the camera, and players who pose after dunks, seldom if ever win the big ones.

THE VITALE HAIR APPARENT.

That would be Jay Bilas, a mouthy know-it-all whose expertise is hindsight.

This elitist Dukie never stops talking about one of two things, that which is obvious, or that which is about to be proved incorrect.

ESPN SHOULD BE ASHAMED SOME MORE.

The way it defends Ucon against NCAA charges is enough to make a person pull for the other three in the Final four.

JIM NANTZ.

The only announcer worth paying attention to is Bill Raftery.

Nantz speaks about The Masters as though it were a church.

A tradition unlike any other?

Oh really?

If it is, quick, who won the Masters last year?

BAD REFS.

What's traveling, anyway, four steps without a dribble?

TYLER HANSBROUGH.

His NBA will be the National Biscuit Association.

OU GUARDS.

How far back did the OU guards set college basketball?

Not bad, nine, ten months, that's all.

MASTER'S ANSWER: Trevor Somebody.

Ssssh. The billionaires are having tea in Butler Cabin.

I agree on most these counts. Someone tell Blake Griffin that he is 6'10" and weighs 260 pounds...he is supposed to be able to dunk. When he can shoot 70% from the charity stripe then he can start posing.

Bilas is as big of a poser as they come. He kind of reminds me of Kirk Herbstreit...a so-called "expert" who has never had anything close to a legitimate pro career.

Bill Raftery's sayings are getting a little out of control. Is he quirky or does he have Tourette's?
soonerguy (4 years ago)
Picker, if you are indeed referencing Blake Griffin, I am tempted to go Mike Gundy on you. I only saw one blatent "pose" ever, and he said he did it because he felt like his team needed the jolt it provided. The kid does everything right, and you are going to say he will never win the big ones because he struck a pose? Give me a break.
How about the poser that you are? Who is the greatest coach in oklahoma? Ever decide? And no comment on your recent picks like the lock that was Syr - over OU. Which you said was a guarantee.
How far back do your articles set the journalism and sportswriting community? Not bad since they aren't real articles. Maybe 9 or 10 months, thats all.

Me thinks MexiMike has a man crush on the Picker.

Picker calling someone else mouthy know-it-all

POSING & FLEXING
Oh, is that what Coach “K”, Roy “Cry a box of Kleenex” Williams, Rick “choke” Pitino, & Bobby “Andy Rooney Eyebrows” Knight are doing in that guitar hero commercial

THE VITALE HAIR APPARENT
Its already been given to Clark Kellogg. Now if we can just get CBS to replace “Pope Augusta” Nantz with Johnny Miller….

ESPN SHOULD BE ASHAMED SOME MORE.
IF you’re a Yankee, Any Big East School, Notre Dame, or Lacrosse fan, it’s the best show in town!!!

JIM NANTZ.
His highness will meet you @ Amen corner

BAD REFS.
Its not their fault that the NCAA is more about show than game!

TYLER HANSBROUGH.
@ least he’ll receive a college degree, that’s better than most them NBA’rs

OU GUARDS
Could’ve been more polished, but they did help the team make an Elite Eight run.

MASTER'S ANSWER
Tiger Woods’ greatness was made apparent simply by his absence the last 9 months on the PGA tour.

Da’ SNICKER
More Hot Air than Nancy Pelosi? George Stephanopoulos? Bill O’Reilly? Howie Mandel? Drew Carey? Most Bloggers?

Um Dwayne, you apparently haven't been reading these blogs or comments for very long.

A lot of the time I disagree with the Picker. It just so happened that this time he said something that made sense.

Soonerguy, Blake is a phenominal player and will be extremely successful at the next level. With that being said, he needs to learn how to play with a little more class. He stares and poses after EVERY dunk. Also, I don't condone any of the cheap shots that are blatantly sent his way but at the same time there have been other players with as much talent and dominance on the college level and not one has had this much punishment dealt to them. It makes you ask what he is saying...
Stogdiddy (4 years ago)
Agreed MexiMike. Kevin Durant was every bit as dominant in college, yet he was never flipped on his back or punched in the junk. Blake Griffin's game can certainly back up his stare-down antics, but opposing teams reactions should not come as a surprise. Can't wait to see him stare down Dwight Howard and Shaq - should be interesting.

Laugher: You're right on the button about The Weeper, coy Roy at NC.

Why college guys buy that you-know-what is hard to figure.

I sort of like both underdogs this weekend, Mich State and Vill.

Thoughts?

I don't like NC a bit.

Hansbrough seems to have gone mellow. That team doesn't play a lick of defense.

Ucon is pretty tough, the windmill at center.

Maggie, don't change your bracket, it's your personality and mind that appeal to us anyhow.

Vern, are we fixing to do lunch?
Dash Riprock (4 years ago)
Don't you think that there will be 30,000 Spartan fans in Motor(less) City for the Final Four? Michigan State has the best coach left in the whole shootin match. They MAKE you play at their level, basic offense, relentless defense. I agree with the Picker, I also like MSU and Villanova in the final game. A little home (Ford Field) advantage and Izzo's coaching give the edge to Sparty...and who would have thought that at the beginning of the season...or the middle of the season for that matter?
Art Monk (4 years ago)
Good blog, Picker. Considering you wrote it from your mom's basement in your Yoda/R2D2 blanket, sipping on Tang and eating Oreo's. The Picker is a douche nozzle. Attribute your name to your opinions or they mean nothing. You're just another part of KeyBoard Commando Nation, not a real journalist. You just have a bigger forum.
Art Monk (4 years ago)
Yeah, resign to his mom's basement. Are there other metro newspapers looking for a Larry King-esque column written by a cartoon?
Gene M (4 years ago)
Mr. Picker, please don't take the Memphis job until after you name the Derby winner. I need the $$$$$$$.
The Picker (4 years ago)
Art Monk?

That's sort of sad.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
