STILLWATER – On Friday night, Oklahoma State commitment J.W. Walsh led his high school football team to a monumental victory.
Walsh quarterbacked Denton (Texas) Guyer High School to a 28-14 win at Southlake Carroll.
The Guyer triumph ended Carroll’s 47-game home win streak – a streak that dated to 2001. In its first season of Class 5A competition, Guyer takes an 8-2 record into the state playoffs.
Rated by Scout.com as a four-star national prospect, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Walsh announced his commitment to the Cowboys about two weeks after OSU hired Dana Holgorsen to coordinate its offense.
“We already liked Oklahoma State, so when Dana went to OSU, it just put the icing on the cake,” said John Walsh, Guyer’s head coach and J.W.’s father.
An obvious question: Is J.W. Walsh committed to Oklahoma State or to Dana Holgorsen? If Holgorsen winds up elsewhere, will Walsh follow?
On Oct. 23, Walsh made an official visit to OSU and watched the Nebraska game. He also is planning to attend the Bedlam contest on Nov. 27.
During a September interview with the Tulsa World, Walsh said, “At the beginning of summer, other schools were still contacting me. After a while, everyone realized that I won’t be changing my mind. I’m going to OSU.”
