Is It Football Season Yet?

Two of "our" basketball teams played rotten games.
OU was obliterated at OSU. It didn't forget how to play defense. It never knew how.
What's the solution?
How about a recruit from this state now and again. Some of these players wouldn't know OU tradition from a video game.
Tulsa's loss at home to Memphis was even more shocking.
The reason for the loss was TU got out-muscled inside.
Here are two questions that deserve answers.
Was OU coach Capel a one-hit wonder?
If TU doesn't get to the NCAA tournament, is coach Wojo in trouble?
TU going so long without an NCAA bid is absurd. Somebody said the TU ticket office has already sent out applications for seats to NIT games, or seats to that other bigger loser's tournament! Anybody going to one of those games should be ashamed.
NASCAR, and the PGA tour without Tiger, are jokes.
The NBA All Star game was fun.
The Olympics are fine.
OU and TU have some explaining to do.

I agree, NASCAR without Tiger Woods is a joke.

OSWho gets a pass, Pick? Is that due to them being 1 game ahead of OU in the conf. and their impressive record due to those "quality" early wins? You got that 1 man show going real deep, do ya? And FYI, the Sooners have 3 Okies on their roster and tried to get Xavier, Orton and Clarke, among others. Didn't he get a decent OK kid a while back? What was his name? Blake something? If you hadn't noticed, Oklahoma is not exactly a hotbed of basketball talent. I guess he should pass on McDonald's All-Americans because they MIGHT not be as good as that Blake kid and they're not from OK. Apparently a projected lottery pick is not quite up to your standards. And TMG looked horrible the other day, huh? The OSWho guards were just ACTING like they couldn't cover him, right?
And you thought the NBA All-Star game was fun? You probably liked the Pro-Bowl too, then. Long live The Who, Phil Simms, Jimmy Dykes and the spread offense.

Masked Assassin - Where to begin.........
- TMG got most of his points late in the game after OSU had let up
- OSU is not gettin bashed because they are right where they were projected to be and have a great shot at making it back to the Big Dance
- ou's 1 man show went pretty deep last year, right?!?!?!
- Capel did got Blake because Taylor went to ou brother. ou got both players because Sean Sutton did not offer Taylor even though they both wanted to go to OSU

MA - left one off
OSU's "quality" wins have given them an RPI of #39
The Masked Assassin

I'll just begin here, hoot. - TMG is very good and was unguardable for much of the game. - The Jokes have 3 "good" wins. (Tech, A&M, K-State. Can't really count OU since we're so horrible and were missing 2 starters) - Anderson is no Griffin. - Blake went to OU. It's not Capel's fault SS was an idiot. (Must've been the drugs)

Since you brought up NASCAR...
How is a 100mph race supposed to be interesting 500mi / 5 hrs. I flipped over a couple times to watch. They should just chain the stupid cars together.
Why don't they just start racing Pirus's or Smart Cars? (I refuse to pronounce or spell that stupid car's name correctly)
Me? I love racing in all it's forms, Ski's, go-karts, anything that's balls to the wall. Not NASCAR, it sucks big time.
Carburetor's with restrictor plates are as silly as a hat full of axeholes.
It's all about personalities and Sponsors now, just rolling billboards.
The Masked Assassin

It's always sucked, okie. It just took a while for people to come out of their drunken stupor long enough to figure that out. Kinda like hockey. They need a good pit fight or a driver running onto the track tryin to punch a car to get it going again. May take a serious injury or a death to revive it.
The Picker
When there's a wreck, why in the name of some sanity don't they make the cars go back to their positions at the time of a crash? Technology could put each car on a dime. And races simply can't end with the cars driving through a school zone. Ending a sport during a time out, that's nuts.Masked, you have your NIT tickets? Should be plenty of good seats available. Hootie, you are exactly correct, OU recruited the big star's brother. Notice the continued complete lack of interest in TU basketball? The center is another example of somebody who should have probably sailed when the wind started to blow.

Not yet Pick, I've got plenty of time right? Pretty sold on the Jokes being for real and going deep, are ya? Let's hear it.

I've watched NASCAR for over 35 years, and it has changed. New, computer designed safety capsules for the drivers has taken a lot of the 'danger' element out of racing. I remember when I was young, race drivers used to be considered daredevils. I'm not advocating anyone should get hurt, no way, but it seems when you take the element of danger out of racing, you have taken some of the 'edge' off the product....b2r

Oh Masked Coward, with terms of endearment such as "OSWho" and "Jokes" it's a shock nobody takes your temper tantrums seriously. You are obviously quite intelligent.
Capel has recruited well. But what has it gotten him? A bunch of selfish players that would rather shoot a deep three with 30 seconds on the shot clock than run a set play that a high school team could muster.
Anderson is no Griffin? How can you even try to compare? They are two totally different positions on the team. I do know that Anderson is the best shooting guard in the nation and that is enough for me.
OSU gets a pass because they are actually NCAA tournament bound. It's that simple. They may not go deep into the tourney but at least they'll get there.
Leave it to a fan like you to still try to talk trash after losing your last game by 20 points. Classy Sean Sutton insult, by the way. It must be awesome for you to spew such idiocy when you hide behind a computer screen shrouded in anonymity. How brave.
The Masked Assassin

Mikey no likey! Where you been hidin out lately? Thanks for backing me up on Capel. And I think the comparison would be that Griffin was hands down the most dominating player in college basketball and the 1st player taken and Anderson is not the former and won't be the latter. Good lookin out, ese.

TULSA, Okla. -- had 21 points and added a career-high 17 to lead Tulsa past Oklahoma State 86-65 Wednesday night. scored 13 for Tulsa (6-1), had 11 points, nine rebounds and six blocks before leaving with a bruised leg, and had 11 points and six assists. led OSU (6-1) with 21 points, followed by with 13 points and with 10, who was 12.8 points below his average while guarded mostly by Wheatley.Tulsawent inside to the 7-foot Jordan early and often. He scored six of TU'sfirst nine points, and Tulsa's inside dominance eventually forced OSUinto a seldom-used zone defense. Tulsa had the answer for that as well,as came off the bench to hit two 3-pointers. Tulsa outrebounded the Cowboys 42-24 and had nine blocks.

Sax, I think the responders are talking present-tense basketball.
If TU doesn't get into the NCAA tournament this year will stand as a major failure.
TU at Duke next week could get painful. Duke is not great. But it never stops running. Who needs a score of 90-50.
But, since nobody cares about TU basketball, it's no worry.
While on the hoop subject, last week I was on the road and listed to some of the OU game on radio. Bob Barry doing basketball is one of the most astounding sounds in all of sport. At one hectic point, he said that Oklahoma State scored! He invented a team basket. Forget wondering about who has the ball. You can't tell a time out from the game.

The problem for OU Men's Basketball isn't where they are getting their players from and about players knowing the tradition. It's about what type of players they are getting and the coaching. There are some things a coach must do in order to be successful. First, you need to recruit athletes that can actually play defense. Second, you need to get the players to play with intensity on defense. Third, you need to run a real offense. Please note: this doesn't include dribbling the ball and shooting a contested three or taking an off balanced jumper (e.g. Capel's offense).

With its loss at Marshall, it looks like TU will need to win the C-USA Tournament at the BOK Center in order to get a bid to the Big Dance. From C-USA, it will likely be UTEP and Memphis in the Big Dance, unless another team in the conference can win the conference tourney.
For OU, it's CBI or bust.
For OSU, they'll make the Big Dance, but won't get past the first Weekend.

UnMasked - Sure Griffen MAY be a better college player but Anderson will definitely be a better NBA player!
The Picker

Hootie, great point, the difference in the two games, pro and college, is why there are so many draft busts. But there are far fewer flops in hoops, what with summer league and AAU play, where everybody competes.
TU is in big trouble. That tournament is in the big house downtown. How will 5,000 look? You can't score consistently in the 50's and do anything.
Baylor at OSU Saturday is very big -- probably the difference in 7-9 and 8-8, flunkie tournament or the bigs. Some college sleepers: Butler, New Mex, N. Iowa, UTEP, Wisky.

My take on Capel and Wojo. .
Capel: Jury is still out, but right now he looks more like a good recruiter than coach.
It has to pointed out that in his (almost) 2 seasons without Blake Griffin on his team, he's 29-27 with no NCAA berths. . and 53-18 with 2 NCAA berths when Griffin was there.
I think it's possible/likely Griffin was a kid who had talent and did not need to be "coached-up" to improve and dominate, while the other talented players Capel has landed needed to be and Capel doesn't have the skills to do it.
As far as Wojo goes; the jury is in: you can't attract the type of players needed to compete nationally when your idea of a great game is a grind-it-out 52-47 win where your offense only went 6 minutes in the second half without scoring instead of the usual 12.
The coaches who were successful at Tulsa (Nolan, Tubby, Hollywood) understood that while you had to play solid D, you also had to score points and put an entertaining product on the floor in order to draw both fans and creative, talented ball players.
All 3 insisted on discipline and effort on the defensive end, and then gave the players be creative and aggressive on the offense, and it was successful.
What entertaining, creative, talented kid would want to come to Tulsa to play for a defense-first coach who grinds out games in CUSA; can't even get on TV in their own city because test patterns are more entertaining then their style of play, and will likely miss a trip to the NCAA's for the 5th season in a row under his tenure?
Wojcik seems like a good guy but he needs to go: his style will never get Tulsa back to being a program that can consistently be a national player and draw fans.
We will never be North Carolina or Kansas, but there's no good reason why we couldn't be where Gonzaga is.

"Griffen MAY be a better college player", hoot? How about "Griffin (spell much?) WAS definitely a better college player and will be in the pros as well. You don't really believe that do you Pick? Short memory.
