Is Mike Gundy all grown up? We should find out this season

Jimmie Tramel wrote an interesting story earlier this week on the latest chapter in the Mike Gundy-Bobby Reid saga. (You can check it out here).

It's good Gundy and Reid have finally met and cleared the air (although I would be interested to hear Reid's side of the conversation).

By most accounts, Gundy has really grown into the job of Oklahoma State head football coach. This story provides another example.

Just as the Gundy-Reid "rant" was a good example of the opposite. Although those at OSU like to say it helped recruiting or demonstrated his passion for his players, it made Gundy a national punchline. It's taken 41 wins in the last four years to start changing that perception.

These days, Gundy dances -- rather than rants -- his way onto YouTube.

But when you win as much as the Cowboys have in the last four years, including last year's breakthrough Big 12 title, it's easier to
settle into your surroundings.

That could make this a very interesting season. After OSU's recent success, the expectation is the Cowboys have built a program that can sustain it.

But with a true freshman starting at quarterback and other smaller questions throughout the two-deep, there could definitely be some growing pains in 2012.

If the Cowboys suffer some adversity in the win-loss column, Gundy's reaction to it may say more about the coach than his meeting with Reid.

What a ridiculous topic! Are you all grown up? That's the more relevant topic. You call yourself sports editor, and this is all you can think of to write about. The man was national coach of the year last year!

The media raked Gundy over the coals for his rant, only because they were looking after one of their own.
And he was right, he is a man, pick on him, not his players when they are demoted.
