Is This the Year Union and Jenks Give It Up? Why Even Mention the AP Poll?

Owasso's Scottie Prealow looks for room to run against Union. MICHAEL WYKE/Tulsa World

The two semi-private public school powers of northeast Oklahoma have appeared slightly more vulnerable the last couple of years, chiefly because of a lack of magic at the skilled positions.

How could such an elite assembly line production turn out anything but five-star players? Do those second-graders need to run more laps? Do the parents need to spend more time in the back yards running the Oklahoma drills?

Midwest City, Edmond North, Owasso and BA appear capable of winning it all.

High school football has become a close copy of the college game, meaning in one respect, it's a quarterback's game.

On the national scene, it's hard to believe how many people continue to mention the most meaningless sports item ever, the AP football poll. It means less than nothing! It is not factored into any official consideration. It is less important than Aunt Betty's fourth grade college football poll. It is junk. It is garbage. Who knows why it is even made public, to convince people there still is a print media perhaps.

Anybody mentioning it is an unknowning clown.

What exactly is an "unknowning" clown?

It will be mentioned, and mentioned in every newspaper in the country. Why? Its a newspaper poll put out by the AP (Associated Press). The sole purpose of the poll is to sell newspapers. I agree its meaningless, but same arguement can be made for the coaches poll. We are stuck with these little toys and play things of the elite until we get a play off. When the NCAA and BCS folds their tents and we have a new system in place that includes a playoff, the pollsters will play games, AP, Coaches, all of them. This year 4 of the best teams play each other, LSU, Bama, then OU and OSU. Boise State probably wont get a pass to the big game because of schedule and politcs in the polls. Life is harder over in the slow lanes.

The coach's poll figures into the BCS standings.

The AP poll figures into the fireplace on a chilly night.

While the AP Poll is meaningless in that it doesn't factor into BCS standings, it is more accurate as I believe the writer's who vote watch more football than the coaches voting for the BCS who tend to be conference homers to make themselves look better.

pick,
as long as you continue to write we will all know there is still a print media, relevance is another story.

Really? Jenks and Union have lost 1 game and they are going down? Really? I guess both programs have set the bar so high that it only takes one loss? "Semi-private school"? "Elite assembly line"? Apparently you have bought a home in the wrong school district and support one of the "not-so-used-to-winning teams" and are lucky enough to get paid to write about it.

Superb MLB playoffs, OU routs Texas & Okie St. has their shot Saturday, NBA cancelling 1st 2 weeks of the season, NFL Philly 1-4 Lions 5-0 Buffalo 4-1....

C'mon Pick, you can find something more interesting to write about than something that might as well not exist & HS crap that only OKC is interested in....

Both polls are uninformed, but it's like voting for president...I'll choose the lesser of two evils, thus it's why I mention it, out loud, so your ears can hear me.

hey how cool would it be if we poured a little money and homecooking into Edison? Would be awesome to have a great program right in the middle of Tulsa , Arent they building a stadium? I mean come on surely were more crooked than Union n little ole Jenks America, and Picker can i get a TU emblem on my Hasty Bake?

The AP poll has gone by the pointless wayside just like all of todays media. If the media were to go back to doing actual research on stories and provided an unbiased/factual view on thingd of REAL importance, they might be taken seriously again!!

Hootie, I couldn't agree more with you. Speaking of not doing research, Greg Doyel of CBS Sportsline wrote that OU and OSU tried to join the Big Ten, but were rejected by the Big Ten. Wow.

I wouldn't believe a word from anybody on a network that would hire Phil Simms.

All this sportsline blogline blurbline stuff is unaccountable garbage.

Here's something a little funny and a lot interesting: 73 percent of fans surveyed said they don't care at all if the NBA stays on strike the whole year.

Somebody needs to wake up fast. Nobody outside the towns involved, and gamblers, tunes in until the last ten minutes of the playoff games anyway.
OSUNDN (last year)
At least we don't have both the AP and the UPI polls so "some teams" can share the national championship. Talk about your mythical champion back in those days... HUH??? The more things change, the more they remaing the same.....
