It Just Got Worse

Just when you think that university presidents can't get any greedier, when college football coaches couldn't be any more over-paid, when there couldn't be more punks playing receiver, when the bowls couldn't be any more corrupt, when the scandals couldn't be more disgusting, when the graduation rates couldn't be lower, when the post season match-ups couldn't get worse than the Fired Coaches Bowl(Illinois versus UCLA), when you think the conferences couldn't be stupider, the BCS couldn't be more unfair, the poll voters couldn't be more biased, and ESPN couldn't be more disgusting, along comes this.

San Diego State's football team joins the Big East Conference.

Ahh, Pick, the force is strong with you. As for SDS......if you can't beat 'em (and they can't), join 'em (and they did).

Appears that the airlines are now in on the absurd conference swap-fest...somebody has to fly all those fans across the country...who wants to drive from San Diego to Connecticut for a night game in the middle of winter?

UConn will agree to play all their November games against San Diego St. in San Diego. Who wants to play a night game in November in Connecticut?

At this point, the University of Hawaii should just join the Big East...why not??

GH, yeah, might Diego State get to Uconn faster going west?

Mr. Picker, the additional hours the student-athletes spend on airplanes will result in more study time . . . and higher graduation rates. I suggest that those University Presidents were very shrewd and inventive in doing this.

Gene-O, thanks for the insight from the scholar among us; and all the time we thought they were listening to bad music, not lesson plans.

Are there any conferences left that don't need a name change?
The Picker (last year)
Norse, yeah, one.

The Ivy League.

You know who else is joining the Big Least? Boise State, SMU, Houston, and Central Florida.

So the Big Least Football Conference will have the following teams:
Cincy, Louisville, UCONN, Rutgers, South Florida, Central Florida, SMU, Houston, Boise State, and San Diego State. Can someone please explain to me how in the heck this conference still will get an automatic BCS bid?

So, what will be the name of the new conference? Perhaps, it could be called the Manifest Destiny Crappy Football Conference?

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
