It's Texas 8, OU 2 on the Rivals' top 100 recruiting scoreboard

Rivals updated its list of top 100 high school football prospects Tuesday. Some Oklahoma-related tidbits:

* Running back Greg Bryant is the highest-rated Sooners commit on the board at No. 28. This is welcome news for a program going without a dominant ball-carrier against next season, a program that misses DeMarco Murray.

(The only committed running back ranked higher is Ty Isaac at No. 24. He's headed to USC. Lane Kiffin probably deserves a lot of the jokes made at his expense, but the boy can recruit.)

* The other OU verbal on the list is Colleyville (Texas) Heritage QB Cody Thomas. He's at No. 96. The guy the Sooners originally wanted before taking Thomas is at No. 5. He's Max Browne, another USC commit.

So that's 2 out of 100 for OU. Or actually, 2 out of 54, since 54 of the 100 have declared their college of choice.

If you figure Texas is batting a higher percentage, you're absolutely right. Here's a rundown of Longhorn commits on the list:

QB Tryone Swoopes at 17

WR Ricky Seals-Jones at 18

O-lineman Kent Perkins at 32

LB Deoundrei Davis at 46

O-lineman Jake Raulerson at 61

WR Jake Oliver at 72

D-tackle A'Shawn Robinson at 87

D-back Antwuan Davis at 93

Did the Sooners offer any of these future Hook Ems? Yes, according to Rivals, they did. They offered six of them. All except Swoopes and Robinson.

To which the average OU fan likely says: "No big deal. Mack has beefed up his Lone Star border patrol recently, and it hasn't exactly worked wonders the past two years. Besides, Stoops is going national. Coast to coast, even, when you consider the California and Florida imports the last few years."

You're free to do with the info what you will. Just sharing is all.

Makes for conversation and helps pass another preseason day, but in the end, until they put on pads and get on the field it really means squat. One of the OU recruits is a QB which right now is the strongest position on the team, so nothing to get too excited about there. Get a couple of great OL kids and I will perk up more.

Who gives a flying flip about ratings? They don't mean a thing. All it is about is someone's opinion....and usually someone who hasn't seen everybody to make a valid evaulation anyway. Its stupid to question coaches who recruit someone who is not a 5-star....they might know a thing or two about evaluating talent....and in the end, it is all about potential.
