It's The Real High Point

Three things worth noting on this day after Christmas:
1, After scanning a particularly weak slate of bowl games that will occur Friday, Saturday and Sunday, it has been determined that the high point of the collegiate sporting scene this weekend will actually involve High Point.
Minnesota will play a college basketball game against High Point and that should interest us exactly why?
Tubby Smith is the head coach at Minnesota and his alma mater is High Point. If Tubby will play his old school, maybe he will play another one of his old schools. Can we get him to agree to bring the Golden Gophers to town for a game against Tulsa at the BOK Center? All in favor, say aye.
Tubby is a heck of a guy and he re-put (not a word, but I'll use it anyway) Tulsa basketball back on the map. It's a bonus for the city any time we can get him to visit.
2, The Tulsa World published a Christmas day story about Lindsey Couri, daughter of TU color analyst Rick Couri, and her joust with a brain tumor.
It's interesting how tragedy brings friends out of the woodwork, just like the end of the movie "It's a Wonderful Life."
Rick talked about how many folks came to him and wanted to do something -- anything -- to help after the tumor was discovered.
I won't bother listing the helpers for fear of leaving someone out, but I'll go ahead and name-drop Todd Graham, who gave Lindsey a not-for-public-consumption sum of money and told her to treat herself to a shopping trip at the Mall of America. She obliged.
3, OSU got 55 points from its two McDonald's All-Americans, James Anderson and Byron Eaton, in an All-College victory over Rhode Island. Good things will happen for the Cowboys this season if their McDonald's All-Americans play up to a standard.

Great info on Couri's daughter and Coach Graham.

When it's all said and done, Tubby Smith is gonna be recognized as the best coach to ever come through the University of Tulsa, in any sport. Ask anybody that's every been coached by Tubby Smith and they will tell you about his character first. That speaks volumes...Coach Smith doesn't just coach basketball, he coaches life.
