Forget all that noise about Sam Bradford, Dez Bryant and the twin Bedlam passing attacks. Saturday night's Bedlam will be decided by DeMarco Murray, Chris Brown, Kendall Hunter and Keith Toston.
It will be decided by the running game. It always is.
In 2000, Quentin Griffin rushed for 115 yards, the Sooners survived 12-7 in Stillwater.
In 2001, the Sooners rushed for no yards. Zilch. That allowed four-touchdown underdog OSU to swipe a 16-13 from Owen Field.
In '02, Rashaun Woods put on an air show. But Tatum Bell's 102 rushing yards helped the Cowboys pull another upset, 38-28. The Sooners ran for just 122 as a team.
In '03, OU muscled back up. Renaldo Works and Kejuan Jones combined for 189 yards while the Pokes gained just 99 as a group. Sooners, 52-9.
2004. Two words: Adrian Peterson. One number: 249. Sooners win, 38-35.
Back in Norman the following year, Peterson went for 237 more. The Sooners rushed for 354, the Cowboys 13. The score was as lopsided, 42-14.
In '06, Allen Patrick got 65 of his 169 yards on a backbreaking touchdown. Brown added 72. OU hung on, 27-21.
Last November, Patrick sprinted for 202, Brown for 76. Sooners, 49-17.
