Jackpot in Vegas

Raymond Penn, a Houston-area point guard who recently committed to Oklahoma State, hit the jackpot in Las Vegas without ever gambling a nickel.
Penn was flying below the national recruiting radar until he put up some outlandish numbers in a Las Vegas summer tournament. At that point, recruiting gurus predicted his stock would rise when rankings were updated.
They were right.
All of a sudden, Penn is a four-star recruit. Rivals.com has Penn ranked as the nation's 54th-best player in the class of 2009.

Tulsa World sports writer Jimmie Tramel is a former class president at Locust Grove High School. He graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern State University with a journalism degree and, while attending college, was sports editor of the Pryor Daily Times. He joined the Tulsa World on Oct. 17, 1989, the same day an earthquake struck the World Series. He is the OSU basketball beat writer and a columnist and feature writer during football season. In 2007, he wrote a book about Oklahoma State football with former Cowboy coach Pat Jones.
