James Anderson and urban renewal

NBA draft prospect and former Oklahoma State guard James Anderson is getting ready to become more metropolitan than ever before.

Anderson grew up in Junction City, Ark. It’s a map dot on the Arkansas-Louisiana border and it’s as small as it sounds.

He spent the last three years in Stillwater. It’s a bigger town than Junction City, of course, but Payne County's metropolis isn't going to be mistaken for New York City or Chicago or Los Angeles.

Anderson is one of the nicest kids, period, ever to suit up for the Cowboys. Hopefully, his NBA destination will be a city that is minus mean streets, but exactly where would that be? Does Oklahoma City have mean streets? Does Salt Lake City?

Anderson may have to become more vicious when he embraces metropolitan life. When in Rome, you know?

But I’m hoping he rubs off on his new city instead of the other way around.

If he gets drafted by OKC, he'll end up living in the mean streets of a gated community up in Edmond somewhere.
