After missing three spring-practice workouts last week, and after there had been speculation that he was considering leaving the Oklahoma State football program, running back Jeremy Smith was in uniform for Monday's session at Boone Pickens Stadium.
In 2008, Smith was an All-State performer on Union High School's Class 6A championship team. After rushing for 160 yards against Grambling State, Smith's 2009 OSU freshman season was cut short by a shoulder injury. He currently is classified as a redshirt freshman.
Kendall Hunter, who will be a senior this season, has fully recovered from a nagging foot injury and remains the No. 1 back in the program. In new offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen's spread passing attack, backs are frequently used as pass-catchers.
Thus far, Hunter and sophomore Travis Miller reportedly have flourished in the offense. Smith is competing also with senior Bryant Ward and redshirt freshman Dexter Pratt for a spot in the rotation.
Arriving in June is first-year freshman running back Joseph Randle, a four-star recruit from Wichita, Kan.
