Justin Blackmon Day set in Ardmore
Published: 4/22/2011 10:39 AM
Last Modified: 4/22/2011 10:39 AM

Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State’s All-American and Biletnikoff Award-winning junior wide receiver, will be honored with a Justin Blackmon Day event in his hometown of Ardmore.

The ceremony is set for 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the downtown Heritage Hall.

Last season, in addition to setting school records for receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches, Blackmon became the first player in major-college football history to have at least 100 receiving yards in 12 consecutive games. He was the Big 12 offensive player of the year and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Blackmon is a graduate of Ardmore’s Plainview High School. Dorothy Varner, the organizer of Saturday’s event, said that one of the streets leading to Plainview High School is expected, after school board approval, to be renamed Justin Blackmon Lane.

Never heard of him. Wasn't Biletnikoff a Russian ballet dancer? Seriously, I find it very sad that a town would honor a young man for his ability to play a child's game.

Have we forgot about his drunk driving arrest this past year?

Naming a street after someone because they can catch a football? He hasn't even graduated yet.

Our society definately has it's priorities mixed up.

I forgot something; when is the ceremony to honor Dez Bryant?

Sad when drunk's get recognition. Sad for OSU to allow him to still be on the team...Must be a lot of drunks in Ardmore...

Sad there are people who are too shallow to understand the hard work and discipline it takes to acheive the distinction Justin has acheived. One indescretion, he has already ask forgiveness for, does not make him a drunk. Forgiveness? Hey, that's what Easter's all about, right? Also, I suspect those being negative with these comments would wear Crimson to church on Easter. That being said, I don't want to place the great majority of OU fans in the same category of the nay sayers on this board. I have a lot of family and friends who wear the Crimson, and they have a lot more class than those making the negative comments about Justin. Happy Easter, and congrats Justin!

Forgiveness? Are you kidding me why is it ok to suspend a normal player and let him get away with what ever he wants ..is OSU that hard-up for good players? Bye the way I am a san Jose spartain fan ..we play bye the rules here.

Langell4321, you live in Vian? Isn't that in Oklahoma? Anyhow, Justin did get suspended. What else has Justin been getting away with? I suppose everyone in San Jose is perfect? Why are you so worried about Justin Blackmon's case anyhow? I certainly have my suspicions. Peace.
