Kelly: 'There's a lot of stuff I need to get done'

Malcolm Kelly wants to get better. How?

"I want to go out there and make sure I'm a good blocker. You know what I'm saying? Spring the running backs and make sure those guys get long runs, because they can make long runs just like we can make long catches. That's one thing I want to focus on," he said.

You have to believe Kelly when he says it. Because he says it a lot.

"I have a lot of confidence in our ability to throw the ball," he said, "but I just want to go out there and see if the receivers can get our knockdowns and make our blocks. Once you start doing that, once you start coming off the ball like you're going to tear somebody's head off every play, by the time you get ready to run that pass route, they're not going to know what to do."

Some have postulated that Kelly might jump to the NFL if he does transform into that fearsome blocker he so wishes to become. Can his skills translate into big dollars next spring?

"I'm far off," Kelly said. "There's a lot of stuff I need to get done. When you get up there, it's a chess match. There's a lot of people in NCAA that have the ability to play in the league, but you've got to have the smarts to play in the league. Right now, I can't say I'm there. So I'm not even really thinking about that."
