Who has the better chance of being voted an All-American – OSU wide receiver Dez Bryant or running back Kendall Hunter?
If Hunter sustains his current average, he would finish the season with more than 1,700 rushing yards. The sophomore is one of only 10 Division I-A running backs who average as much as 120 rushing yards per game. His average of 133.2 leads the Big 12 and is fourth nationally. He averages 6.7 yards per carry.
Because of the Big 12's reputation for dynamic offensive football, and because six of OSU's last seven regular-season games will have been televised, Hunter would get considerable consideration for All-American honors. He would be OSU's first All-American running back since Gerald Hudson in 1990.
Bryant, also a sophomore, has had a great season – 64 receptions, 1,140 yards and 17 touchdowns (15 on pass plays, two on punt returns). He is No. 6 nationally in scoring (102 points) and No. 2 in receiving yards per game (114.0), but Texas Tech's Michael Crabtree is viewed as the Big 12's best wide receiver.
Meanwhile, Hunter does seem universally regarded as the Big 12's top running back.
