Kevin Durant one of the main inspirations behind new collection from Nike

Black History month is right around the corner and Nike, along with Kevin Durant, is getting a head start on the celebration.

Nike has unveiled the 2013 Black History Month Collection with the slogan “Be Bold. Be True.” The collection will consist of seven shoes, including a unique version of the KDV from Kevin Durant.

Durant is also one of the main inspirations behind the collection this year.

This year’s Nike Black History Month collection honors three elite athletes who embody a bold and progressive spirit, both in athletics and social stewardship.

Superstars Kevin Durant, Serena Williams (superstar tennis player) and Didier Drogba (international soccer star) inspired the 2013 “Be Bold, Be True” mantra and a monumental set of products.

According to Nike, the 2013 line features a bold repeat pattern, including hand-drawn icons symbolic of the causes each athlete is committed to outside of sports. And in keeping with a tradition of honoring this holiday by giving back to organizations that work to inspire youth, Nike, Inc., will make a financial contribution to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

All BHM footwear and apparel will be available at Nike.com and select retailers beginning January 26.

Along with the new new collection, Nike presents "Be Bold. Be True," a new web film, dedicated to all rebels with a cause. The film features Kevin Durant and an exclusive musical track produced by 9th Wonder. Durant closes out the video by telling the world to “Just Be Bold, Be True.”

In the press release from Nike, details about each athletes distinct logo is explained.

“All three athletes are celebrated in this year’s collection with each having an individual logo created. Durant’s icon represents hopes and dreams of young athletes, with a basketball hoop merging with a cloud formation, a nod to the support he has given to his hometown recreation center in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, a place he attributes for helping him realize his own dreams. Drogba with a light bulb morphed with soccer ball, representing his ongoing involvement in bringing solar light bulbs to impoverished areas in Africa. Williams’ icon consists of a tennis ball emanating with lighting bolts, showing how she empowers young women, especially through the secondary school she helped build in Kenya. The three icons are infused into a distinct Nike BHM print pattern that appears throughout the collection."

Durant launched a charity last year called the Kevin Durant Family Foundation with the goal of helping “financially vulnerable children and their families succeed.”
