Kevin Wilson Defeats OSU
Published:

Blamed by many for OU's fall from the nation's upper level, Kevin Wilson called one of the greatest games in Bedlam history.
Third and 12, game on the line, Wilson dials up a pass, OSU seems stunned into inactivity, touchdown.
Then the next series, run play anticipated, another great pass call, another touchdown.
Landy Jones played great in the second half.
OSU is not quite ready for prime time on defense.
The Big 12 south representative goes against a Nebraska team with no quarterback but a fantastic defense.
The conference winner is apt to play a BCS bowl against a Big East team that could finish above .500.
Blackmon played on one foot.
The OSU quarterback looked his age in the first half.
Kevin Wilson was a star.

Right on, Mr. Picker. Wilson outfoxed the OSU defense. OSU still needs to figure out a way to play defense in the big games. In OSU's two losses, they've given up a combined 98 points. That's an average of 49 points per loss.

If you take out the pick-6 and kickoff return, OU's D only gave up 27 points, and really would've been less than that without Landry giving OSU short fields. Holgerson made some great adjustments to start the 2nd half but Venables actually countered them, for the most part. Losing Nelson hurt the D but they still made plays. And in spite of the kickoff return, I'd say that OU's rise on defense & special teams is tied to the return of The Hammer. He made another great defensive play on the tip, and had a couple of stops on kickoffs. Lots of things to nitpick for OU but, all-in-all, they actually came to play & executed. Good game by OSU.

I'm sorry, did you mean the best coaches won the game?

I'm sure as hell no Wilson fan but kudos to you, Pick, for giving him rare credit when it's truly due. And although Jones had a career 4th qtr, I'm still not convinced he's ready for the big time; he was simply bailing the team out from under the seventeen-points he gift-wrapped to the Ags.

Ok Im sorry, wgpost, what is the BIG TIME? Saturday night wasn't the Big time? I kept hearing it was, from all quarters. ESPN was in town, the picker, sports writers, and especially you. How did it go? Bob can't win because OsU has better coaching and talent? While cooler heads said now hold on a second, turns out OU not only had more talent, AS USUAL, but better coaching as well. Including Venables, that's right OU's defensive coordinator did better job then OSU's.Hmm, now that same stench that was in Norman is emanating from Stillwater. Same stench you still do not recognize as you are unfamiliar with it. Victory. Looks like another pay bump for Bobby and the boys from their constituency. Still no respect for Bobby from you? Guess he will have to console himself with 8 in a row, and oh yea the nations longest home winning streak. That's big time boy. Please do not bore us with your irrational win a national title every year or it isn't the big time talk.

Staring at prospect that Big East BCS representative probably won't crack the top 25. Does that taste funny to you?

I have to admit I was expecting Wilson to run the ball and punt but he had some guts to call those passes and not screens.

KW finally gets it! Think outside the box and call the unexpected play. Long overdue and I for one is dang glad he finally awoke from his slumber.
GO BIG RED and beat the little red in Arlington on the third.

Very impressed with OU's runners and the defense.Landry Jones is certainly no Sam Bradford, but who is? Surprised Gumby never panicked or made a fool of himself on sideline. He has definitely matured. OSU is second best team in Big 12. I picked OU by 6 (six weeks of big picks). Sad that the best to come of this will be OU-UConn. Good Lord!

Donny my boy, you're a chump. Try--though it won't work for you because you're crimson-and-cream perspective won't allow it--to look at the picture just a bit more objectively. Stoops wins it all in 2000 and begins a steady slide downhill ever since; and please, don't ask me to defend it, I have neither the time, patience, nor inclination to do so. Get off your lazy rear and do a little research on who has beaten us (OU), and how badly. While you're at it, check out the defensive stats overall over the past five years. Now, to Jones. It doesn't take a wizard to see that the young man plays like a champ in Norman against weaker foes, while he has historically choked against the better teams on the road. Not my opinion, just facts. Now, did he play well in the fourth quarter last night? Absolutely. Would I like to think he has "grown up" as Trotter and Tramel of the DO stated? Yeah, I would. But I won't believe it until I see some consistency. In the meantime Donny, don't be such a homer. I know you love your team - we all do - but try to be an adult about it. Merry Christmas to you.

Mr. Picker
How stupid you must feel for your comments/pick for this years "Bedlam" game. You truly showed your public that in no way do you have a clue as to the "state" of football in Oklahoma. Go crawl under a rock and come back next year. You should be placed in the "comic" section cause you are a joke!

What can you say, the cream rises to the top. OU gave OSU too much to look at on offense then they found some big time plays down the field. I have to hand it to OSU, they are coming into their own They came back with a vengence, but OU was too much at the end.
Cudos to Kevin Wilson. I still say they need some lineman on both sides of the ball. Especially on offense.

Blackmon's injury changed the whole dynamic of their offense. He was OSU's deep threat.
OU's defense has showed brilliance before but not for 4 quarters in the same game. They evaluated the threats present and countered them. Good job.
Has Bob shucked off the Away Game Blues? It's looking like it. Next Season should be a doozie.
It is now clear OSU was one player away from a mediocre offense.
Dr. Strangelove

justanotherokie, even after a loss to your beloved Sooners the Pokes are still the 2nd ranked offense in the U.S. Saying we we're one dimensional doesn't give the OU defense enough credit. Turnovers and an almost complete lack of pass defense underlined OSU's fate in my opinion. Certainly the game pretty much went as expected in that the margin of victory was less than a touchdown either way. Again, best wishes for you guys against Nebraska, but your last statement is ludicrous.

Wgpost, it is getting so old claiming you are an OU fan, when you have been identified as long time OU hating troll. What OU fan after a win on the road against higher ranked and favored bitter rival, that sends OU to championship game against an old even more legitimate rival in final year of a soon to be defunct conference comes to dismiss their own teams big win? None is the answer. You still have not identified what is "Big Time" please give the criteria. Now I know you hate OU and Bob for all their success, but Saturday night was the big time. Run along now and play with the rest of the OU haters try pvilledad he needs a friend.

It's funny, to a lesser degree, the Pick is still making a team OU beats a chump...only after OU beats them. OSU was favored by you and everyone else and OU coaches were all morons...do you really think they just turned smart when they got to Stillwater? Highly unlikely, especially in Stillwater. Point is, the season long harang by the Pick on the OU coaches was and is stupid. Little too late to say 'Wilson is a star' now after 12 weeks of calling for him and Venables jobs.

Why is it that Kevin Wilson can look like a thorobred champion one week, and then the next week look like a plodding plow horse?????
The opponents do not dictate that much change, so what is it????
anm1135
Soonerluvr, if you want to play the what if game... what if UO doesn't get the couple of tipped interceptions that resulted in very short fields and led to points.
I think both teams could what if several things. What if OSU did have a safety back on those last two touchdowns?
If your aunt had nuts she'd be your uncle.
Don's World

Domo, what don't you get? Would you still be saying he was thouroughbred if OSU had covered those plays and didn't make OSU burn their time outs with running plays? Or would you have been going off on him had Kenney and or Hanna dropped either of those passes like had been happening all evening to OU by normally sure handed receivers? Same kind of wide open pass Hanna dropped at Texas A&M. Oh Wilson would be getting ripped big time for 62 pass attempts! Why didn't you run the ball more?! He called good games at Missouri and A&M, players didn't quite make the plays those days. It happens. Oh he is thouroughbred when they win, but plow horse when they don't. Kind of like fan who is real fan and one who is bandwagon.

I'll give it to Wilson on this game but I still say more flub ups than good games. And yes, I'm an alum. Was hoping he would get the Miami job.
