Lance Armstrong, Rat or Hero?
Published: 1/15/2013 3:55 PM

This isn't an easy issue.

Some think most heroes are flawed. Excuse us, but those are comic book heroes, fictional creations, your Scrooges and Robin Hoods. The truth is that lots of real-life heroes are all-around good people from day one -- the pilot who lands an airplane on a river, anonymous donors one and all to the children of the land.

Lance Armstrong is a liar, and as good a liar as you're apt to see, even Clinton-like in his trips around the outskirts of truthful phraseology.

Here's the thing about liars, ask any attorney: Lie once under oath, you're cooked forever as it can be assumed that you will lie forever more.

Here's what's tough: Could Armstrong have raised all that cancer research money without doping and lying?

Nope. No way. Who gives a ton to a guy who finished seventh in some nutty bike race?

He should give back the personal endorsement money that the doping and lies created.

Cancer research gets to keep all its money.

Work around the liar, life goes on, more life, hopefully, thanks to the research money.

For once I almost agree with the Picker..almost.

Lance Armstrong betrayed his sport by lying...he betrayed the people in his LiveStrong organization by lying...He betrayed his sponsors by lying...when does he stop??? How do we know that he won't be lying to Oprah???

You won't.
He's a liar.

Did he have to lie and cheat to win races and raise money?

Give it back? You're kidding. The whole phrase is lie, cheat and STEAL.

He is an egomanic who could not own up to his cheating and lying about it. He dumped his wife to run around with celebs and was holier than thou about all of it. Must have an ulterior motive for latest publicity stunt.

Good post Picker. My vote, Rat.

The worst thing was how he treated those who challenged him for his use of PEDs. Cycling careers ended. Greg Lemond's bicycle business was destroyed. (Lemond, a 3-time Tour winner, sold a line of bikes through Trek, who sponsored Armstrong. When Lemond's went public with his criticism of Armstrong, Armstrong convinced Trek to pull the plug on marketing and distribution of Lemond's bikes. Lemond now makes and sells a line of exercise equipment). Journalists and newspapers paid Armstrong when he sued them for correctly reporting the questions about his use of drugs. It was all a sham, and he built a financial empire from it.

Picker, you must not have read the column by Hoover. Do you people ever talk to each other, or do you get together and agree that you write whatever and I will write the opposite so between us we can fill this rag up with something. Or did Hoover write both items?

K D has passed Lebron based on mid season play. The Heat and Lebron will step up when the playoffs kick in.....when it counts.

Armstrong was doing what 90% of the other bikers were doing. He was singled out because he is American and because he won.
No, I dont have proof on the 90% of the other bikers, but its as good as number as any. If Lance had not doped, he still would have finished well, and I bet that whoever beat him would have been a doper. So, best doper won. Keep the trophy in my book.

Cynical, but probably correct.

Lance will never be a hero.

I give him credit for telling the truth BUT when I heard some of his comments I think he has delusioned himself into thinking he really didn't cheat.

Rat.

Picker, it is my understanding that Armstrong's foundation did not spend any money. . . zero. . on research. You might want to check that out.
