Looks like the Longhorns will be wearing name tags to the Cotton Bowl

What would Bob Stoops do if his Oklahoma Sooners ever went 5-7, lost home games to UCLA 34-12 and to Oklahoma State 33-16, and fell short of qualifying for any bowl games, from Texas to Insight to Pinstripe? Probably not this…

From Andy Staples' recent piece on SI.com: "When the Texas football team reconvened Jan. 17 after a longer-than-usual winter break, coach Mack Brown ordered his assistants to introduce themselves to the team. Whether it was a coach's first year or third year or 13th year, each introduction followed the same script…

"My name is (insert name here), and it's my first day at Texas.

"By the end of the meeting, all the players, from the early enrollees to the rising seniors, had proclaimed Jan. 17 to be their first day at Texas."

Just a hunch, but I'm guessing introductions at the first OU meeting after a 5-7 season might sound more like this:

"Hi. My name is (insert name here). I've watched tape of last season until I filled the barf pail at my feet, and I take full responsibility for every blown assignment/missed tackle/dropped pass/mis-read. I remember every one, and will use that to motivate me toward a better (insert season here)."

Not saying one style is better. Just pointing out the obvious -- that the two old rivals are worlds apart when it comes to pushing psychological buttons.

"Today is my first day at Texas" better work for Mack Brown, or someday in October may be his last day at Texas ! !
