MVP
Published: 1/17/2011 5:20 PM

With the stench of college football out of the air, finally some high quality NFL action.

The worst weekend performance by far was by Balt quarterback Joe Sacko.

He passed for what, 100 yards?

Ray Lewis has lost another step, making him the equivalent of a center.

Why are surprises so surprising?

Electronic media hacks, that's why.

First, one month ago, they gave the MVP to Michael Vick. Then, after it was revealed that the playing expectancy of a running quarterback in the NFL was three weeks, the media hacks gave the MVP to Tom Brady. He'll win in a landslide. Which is a first-class joke. Why give it before the playoffs are over? It is a regular season MVP. Which means nothing. Brady and his coach are the most overrated pair in football. They haven't won a real game since when, Spy Gate? Brady has heavy feet and can't move and can now devote more time to being a fashion model. The New England coach was horrific, suspending a player for a series (except for catching a punt!), and running out the clock, down ten. Forget New England, it's over.

The real MVP, the only MVP, is defensive back Revis of the Jets. He could cover several butterflies at once. He is probably the best ever at his position. Wake up, media hacks.

In college basketball news, the OU coach looks like a fired man sitting.

OSU is 45-55 to make the tournament.

Does anybody care about TU hoops anymore?

What was the attendance at the last ORU game, 375?

KU is slightly overrated.

Who is the person with whom we bet dinner for the NBA title, we chose the Miami Heat and he chose the LA Puddles? We lost his name and will let him off for lunch.

Tom is probably still crying and playing with his hair. Maybe Justin Bieber can come over and cheer him up?

The Picker is getting his game back. " the stench of college football" LOL!

As someone who lost his hair at a young age, I understand Brady's fragile emotions. He will get over it when he is about 48. Unfortunately, that will be 20 years after his last important victory. My suggestion: Tom, get a wife who doesn't care about hair.

Revis is the best corner in the game...and Picker, you just might be right (never thought I'd ever say that!), he just might be the best ever. HE. SHUTS. DOWN. EVERYONE.

I agree the coach is overrated. He is who he is BECAUSE of Brady. I disagree about Brady though...there aren't more than 2 or 3 others in the league on his level, and you'd be hard pressed to figure out which is the best. Come on, it's ridiculously hard to win a playoff game in the NFL, and for all the talk about the Jets, remember the Patriots were probably just one missed (barely) onsides kick from winning despite the bad play calling.

Since you brought up coaches, how about the guy at New Orleans going for a 4th down in his own end of the field, in the middle of the 3rd quarter?! Switzer was run out of the NFL for a 4th down call that wasn't nearly that ridiculous.

Revis as the best CB ever? I guess you never saw HoF Mel Blount. Or HoF Rod Woodson. Or Hof Mike Haynes. Or HoF Willie Brown. Or soon-to-be HoF Deion Sanders. Or Lester Hayes. Or the reigning NFL Defensive POY Charles Woodson. Unlike Blount, Sanders, Hayes, and both Woodsons, Revis has never been named NFL Defensive POY. Shoot, Revis has only been in the league for 4 years and has yet to unseat Nndami Asomugha as the best CB currently in the league. Revis is nowhere near the best CB in NFL history. Not.Even.Close.

Oops, sorry for the double-post. I double-clicked the mouse...
Tulsan in Exile (2 years ago)
Deion Sanders is one of the most overrated players in the history of sports, a true legend in his own mind. He loafed half the time, and was a liability for the Cowboys. What a joke!
Ignatz (2 years ago)
no, Bevis or whomever isn't in the top 100, what's with all the double clicking?

Belichick overrated? Puhleeze!

Oh, and as long as the Celts can remain healthy there is no way the Heat make it out of the East... Just sayin'...
Don's World (2 years ago)
Tulsan in exile, second you said Deion was one of the most over rated players in NFL history ever, you lost all credibility. Don't like the guy? Fine, but please be accurate in what you say. By liability did you mean the way he took away half the field for the opposing team? You do know he didn't play that long ago? Many of us actually saw him play.
Revis is just latest toy in the window. Only hacks declare someone the best ever before they have even really started their career. Ray Lewis speed of a center? Maybe so, but a center that always seems to find himself around the ball and knocking the crud out of someone.
Brady and Belechick overrated? Wow. You keep using that word Pick, I don't think it means what you think it means.

(psst, chances of that being your true opinion of them? ZERO. It'll be our little secret. I know you like being the original "flamer")

Speaking of overrated.....Picker's just bitter because he was right on only 50% of his pro picks last weekend. He even picked Atlanta to win outright!
traija50 (2 years ago)
The picker is a great writer. But, he, nor anybody, can tell the future. 50/50 is 50/50. What were your picks MARA? What a dumb question I just asked. You could say anything. Anyway, watch him go 2 for 2 and get the Super Bowl correct. Just watch......
DaddyX2 (2 years ago)
Brady overrated? Do you watch the sport? The New England Patriots led the league in scoring and offense with skill position players named Woodhead, Branch, Welker, Crumpler, and Grankowski. Oh, and the overrated Brady. Go back to writing about sidewalks or whatever it is that you do in the rest of the newspaper.

Traija50; The Picker is entertaining. What he's NOT is a good prognosticator. Look at the record - do you see all the people on the left panel that won more than half the time picking against him?
Glenn616 (2 years ago)
Mr. Picker,

You said last season that the Lakers had zero chance of winning the 2010 NBA title. How's that prediction working for you?

The Lakers still have talent, last time I checked. As long as they have Phil Jackson, Kobe, and Pau, the Lakers won't be easy to beat.
traija50 (2 years ago)
Mara... I'm fully aware of his record... for some 25 years now. He has hot streaks and very cold streaks. AND I made about 5 K This past football season bettin' college football.
But he's a great writer. That's what gets you and everybody else so drove up.... and it is hilariously entertaining. Probably the only reason I subscribe to the World... forever. His "other" column was badly boring this morning. Don't know what other column I'm talking about....do ya.
The Picker (2 years ago)
Jimm: Simms was a fraction better last week. Still, he never says a thing beyond the obvious. They're carrying some guy off the field and Simms will say something like, "I bet that hurt." And Nantz, Mr. Rolex, traditional hype unlike any other. Thank heavens the Bowl is on Fox.

Zaphod: Kiss number 17 on the Steelers goodbye. Revis will be his shadow. So name a more deserving MVP. Nobody is even close.

Brady and NE fans: It has been over since the the team was caught spying. The NE coach looks like Vanilla Ice's uncle. He needs a makeover. Like his QB.
traija50 (2 years ago)
If Brady needs a makeover.... what in the world do I need? A new.... Plastic surgeon?
The Picker (2 years ago)
Traiga, Brady already got his. Vanilla Ice's uncle needs one now.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
