Manning meets the media

Tulsa basketball coach Danny Manning continues the acclimation process to his new job, as he held a meet-and-greet with local media Wednesday at the Reynolds Center.

Think of it as Bubba Brunch -- only without Bubba.

Manning introduced his coaching and support staff and talked a little about his scheduling philosophy.

Among those on his staff, he saved the greatest praise for Shea Seals, who left Booker T. Washington to join Manning as TU's director of player development and team manager.

Manning talked about the importance of linking the Golden Hurricane's past with its present, and of all Manning's hires, I'm sure Seals' resonates the most with Tulsa fans.

In public, Manning comes off as a bit of a reluctant superstar. But these meetings are necessary to help him eventually connect with his fan base. It will be interesting to see how the crowd reacts to him in two weeks when he is the keynote speaker at the Iba Awards.

And it will be even more interesting to see how he handles his first team when it hits the floor this fall.
