Mason-Griffin: 'I gave it my all'

Tommy Mason-Griffin granted the FOX affiliate in his Houston hometown his first interview since leaving the Oklahoma basketball program after the 2009-10 season. A few highlights follow...

On his decision to turn pro:
"I know my coaches weren't expecting me to leave this early. So it was like leaving a family to help my family. When it came down to it I wanted to do whatever was best for me."

On disappointing OU fans:
"I want to apologize if they felt I let them down by leaving early or leaving this soon."

On those who doubt he's ready for pro ball:
"I've been going against critics my whole life. Everybody said I was too little. At first I couldn't shoot good enough. I wasn't going to go D-1 because I was overweight. I just look at it as motivation for every day when I work out."

On the Sooners' 13-18 season:
"I know we didn't have the best season, but I gave it my all. My teammates gave it their all even though the end of the season didn't come out like it was supposed to, but we played hard and we fought."

On OU coach Jeff Capel:
"It's kind of like a big brother-type relationship. He texts me to see where my confidence is at. We text every now and then, kind of a friendship-type thing. We have a nice bond even though I left school early."

Mason's answers shows the (lack) of maturity in a young man of his age. As he stated himself when he says he has been going against his critic's his whole life.
Mason would have been best served to take the advise and direction of his critics and stay put.
Life is about giving your all..every day and not walking away because your team did not play up to any sort of reasonalbe expectation or because you want to go against the advise of those with ten thousand times more life experience than you have!
Another athlete drops out to gamgle on a PRO career with terrible odds... at the tax payers expense as well as some qualifed young athlete in whom Capel should have brought in and should have brought in to OU>!!

That's a nice, touching story but the head coach is not there to be big brother, the assistants can do that... Maybe, just maybe that has been part of the reason OU hoops has become a joke almost overnight. 4 scholarship players? Embarrassing.
