Mean, green and caffeine

It seems like a natural occurrence -- sort of like the Berlin Wall coming down -- that tradition-rich Muskogee is good at football again, and while the world no longer fears a unified Germany (the Germans are good guys now), Class 6A football probably has reason to fear a unified Muskogee.
I sat down with Muskogee coach Matt Hennesy for a piece about the Rougher resurgence a few days ago and came away impressed with what I heard. He and former boss Ron Lancaster didn't just concentrate on X's and O's. Lancaster shook hands and had coffee with anyone and everyone in an attempt to unify the town behind Rougher football.
Coaches love to trot out the cliche that everyone has to pull on the same rope in order to succeed, but that seems to be the case in Muskogee. A little public relations and a little caffeine went a long way. Hennesy said administrators, teachers and people in the community all have thrown their support behind the local team. Muskogee improved to 3-0 with a victory over Union and now the Tulsa World's chief high school writer, Barry Lewis, has a difficult decision. Who do you rank No. 1 in Class 6A -- Jenks or Muskogee? It's a judgment call since the teams haven't played yet. I wonder who Merle Haggard is rooting for?
