Measuring OSU's Victory at A&M

It is far too early to label Oklahoma State’s victory at Texas A&M as a program-changing moment.

Yes, it was an impressive victory, very impressive in the way it unfolded. Down 20-3 at halftime in one of the toughest environments in college football, OSU quarterback Brandon Weeden showed why he should be mentioned in any conversation about the Heisman Trophy.

He is cool, confident and very good. It is rubbing off on his teammates.

Yet, we know have no idea how this season will play out for OSU or Texas A&M.

If the Aggies don’t lose again this year, then this was a very impressive victory.

If OSU goes on to a BCS game, we’ll know this was a key game in the season.

You can’t evaluate the importance of a game until the season plays out and see what happens to both teams.

Oklahoma’s victory over Florida State looked pretty great a week ago. Now, that the Seminoles already have two losses on the season, it is still good but not as impressive.

If A&M goes out and loses to Arkansas, that will temper the OSU victory in College Station.

That doesn’t mean road victories over top 10 teams are not impressive. What OU and OSU did the past two weeks was great.

But how great is yet to be determined.

I do not think a loss by A&M to an SEC opponent, even one that just got spanked by Bama, would diminish the impressive victory in College Station. The Cowboys should be very proud of their effort and the outcome of this road contest. OSU cannot control the polls, only how they perform.

The most important thing for any team with high aspirations is to just keep winning. If the OU and OSU defenses don't make the necessary improvements, they can both forget about playing in New Orleans in January.
