Let's get one thing straight, right off.
Here is the order of important sports in Oklahoma.
1. Golf at Southern Hills in Tulsa.
2. OU football.
3. OSU basketball.
4. Also-ran NBA basketball in Oklahoma City.

What is it about golf that turns announcers into saps who sound like they're reciting excerpts from beginning poetry class at the community college?
Glory's Last Shot is what CBS called the PGA tournament.
There's a touring pro, the last name of Glory?
Bob Glory?
Anybody see what he shot?
Jim Nantz is from the MORNING SPITS SUNSHINE school of golf announcing -- why keep it simple when you can compare rich guys using supersonic equipment to the meaning of life.

Here's something worth a thought or two hundred: the heat at Southern Hills next August.
If it's anything then like it is now, the casualties of the course won't be the pros with high scores. The casualties could be actual casualties. Imagine some 75-year old duffer trying to hike straight up the hill to the 9th green in 113-degree weather with 99 humidity.
Is there still time to build a dome over Southern Hills?

The Picks begins the 2006 regular run Thursday in the newspaper.
For some reason, the price of that day's paper will remain the same.
One question we will try to answer is: Who will be the best football team in Oklahoma this season, OU, TU or OSU?
It is not an easy answer.
Please try to keep up this season people.

I have read your column for many years in the Tulsa World and while I may not always share your point of view...I sure as heck get a kick out of it.

The best football team in Oklahoma is OU and will continue to be OU...with TU coming up on the outside and osu trailing a dismal 3rd.:)

The Picker Needs To Go NATIONAL. Most entertaining read! Heck Id like to see a daily installment of the picker

To answer your question: TU, of course, will be the best in the state! LOL

By the way, please let me know before your next trip to Vegas ... I'd like to turn my 401K into some actual gold for my golden years.

Keep up the outstanding work!

TU isn't the best football team in its city, let alone the state.

I agree with Scott McCrary about the Picker going Nationaly, the picker was the only reason I pick-up Tulsa World paper on thursdays..OU is the team in Oklahoma with Tulsa second and OSU at a distance third.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
