Five things to know about Jed Barnett, a punter from Oakland Laney College who indicated via Twitter he has committed to kick for Oklahoma:
– He began his college career at Cal as a walk-on, but hoped to eventually earn a scholarship as a kickoff specialist.
– He wound up leaving Berkeley and resurfacing at nearby Laney, where he averaged 40 yards on 65 punts according to the college's most recent statistics.
– Something called Cover 2 Recruiting reported as recently as Nov. 17 that he had committed to Louisiana Tech over an offer from Stony Brook, an FCS school in New York.
– With Tress Way being a senior, he'll obviously have an immediate shot to take over as OU punter, although redshirt kicker Jack Steed might have a go as well.
– He threw the javelin for Union High School in Camas, Wash. Being a kicker, he played some soccer as well.
