Memphis Needs to be Pushed in C-USA

Kansas is the king of Big 12 Conference basketball but the Jayhawks lose games and are often challenged by other teams in the league.
That’s not the case in Conference USA where Memphis is not only king but almost never challenged.
The Tigers are once again the overwhelming favorite to win C-USA. Once again there doesn’t appear to be any teams in the league capable of a serious challenge.
That’s a problem for Conference USA because the perception is that Memphis is good but no one else is good. Perception is reality, especially in C-USA.
“We have to do our job and win games in the non-conference,” said UTEP coach Tim Floyd. “We have to prove we deserve more than one bid.”
Unless someone surprises this season, Memphis will be the only team from the league to reach the NCAA Tournament.
Tulsa has been among the disappointing teams over the last decade. The Hurricane has not been a serious contender to reach the NCAA Tournament since 2003.
That has to change for Tulsa and other traditional basketball powers like UTEP, Houston and UAB for Conference USA to get some notice.
Otherwise, the Conference USA Tournament in Tulsa in March will be nothing more than a showcase for Memphis.
