Memphis Schedules Challenges Before C-USA

Memphis has a lot to prove after it picked up the No. 9 ranking in the first ESPN/USA Today Coaches basketball poll released on Thursday.
That would seem to be way too high for a team that struggled in a very weak Conference USA a year ago then needed a miracle at the C-USA Tournament to get into the NCAA Tournament.
Yes, the Tigers played very well in their one NCAA Tournament game - a tight loss to Arizona at Tulsa’s BOK Center.
Since John Calipari left for Kentucky, Memphis has been known for underachieving in a very poor conference.
Conference USA has been begging for someone to step up and take control since Calipari left Memphis. Instead, UTEP, Houston and Memphis were one-and-done in the NCAAs the past two years.
Memphis is now predicted to be back to its dominating form.
We’ll find out pretty quick.
Unlike other C-USA teams, who play nobody in the pre-conference season, Memphis has scheduled itself plenty of challenges.
The Tigers will play at Louisville, at Georgetown and face Tennessee before the league season begins. In addition, they will play in the Maui Invitational (including Kansas, Duke and UCLA).
How Memphis handles the early challenges will be a barometer on whether C-USA is back to a one-team league.
