During his session with print media Tuesday at Big 12 Media Days, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy was asked about off-the-field issues involving former player Dez Bryant.
Bryant, who is entering his third season as a Dallas Cowboys receiver, was accused 10 days ago of hitting his mother across the face with a ball cap and grabbing her shirt. His mother now says she doesn't want to file charges in the incident, according to the Associated Press.
"Dez, as we all know, is an unbelievable talent and is trying to make strides to do the right thing, and I'm not really informed on what happened just recently," Gundy said Tuesday morning. " ... But it saddens me to hear negative things come out about Dez, and hopefully he can get it together."
Gundy also said Bryant didn't cause any problems while a big-time playmaker for the Cowboys.
"When he was at Oklahoma State, we were with him all the time every step of the way," Gundy said. "We never really had many issues with him. And when I look back at the times, I think that the coaches that were there, they stood next to him and they were there with him and it worked out well for us.
"Hopefully he can get back into that trend in the NFL."
