Mike Stoops battling Brent Venables on the recruiting trail

Here's a recruiting battle of note: Mike Stoops vs. Brent Venables.

According to the Greenville (S.C.) News, the two old pals both visited hotshot high school prospect Adrian Baker in Hollywood, Fla., last Wednesday (presumably not at the same time).

Baker is a four-star cornerback from Chaminade-Madonna College Prep School who was all set to attend Florida State, until Mark Stoops left FSU to take over at Kentucky. Now, he's not so sure.

The Spartanburg (S.C.) Herald Journal reports Baker visited Clemson last weekend, taking in a Tigers practice and their basketball game against Arizona. He'll be in Norman this weekend.

Baker still might wind up with the Seminoles, although the departure of Mark Stoops and other FSU assistants appear to make that more of a longshot.

Which gives Mike Stoops and Venables a chance to swoop in for a game of may-the-best-poacher-win. Should be fun keeping tabs on this one.

I was hoping the recruit was a D-tackle.

OU needs great cornerbacks...to make the tackles that the Defensive Line missed.
