Current Affairs:

Parcells didn't throw Romo under the bus. He threw him into a wood chipper. Somebody should throw Parcells under a cruise boat shuffleboard stick.

One, guys getting their brains jostled shouldn't hold extra points or field goals.

Two, the game was not over after the blotched field goal. Dallas had all its time-outs and, with a stop, could have had the ball on the 30-yard line with a minute left.

Parcells said his plan was to call all the time-outs and then fair catch the punt and try a field goal. Clearly, he's getting close to being out of it.

Why wasn't the flubbed field goal measured for a first down?

Next: Dallas safety Roy Williams couldn't cover an old frog.

Next: What's with OU's recruiting class not being in any top 15 lists?

Next: High school football players declaring a college choice on national television are no great loss to the hats left on the table.

Next: Taylor Hicks should appear on the first American Idol show and give back his first-place ribbon.

Next: Vince Young winning rookie of the year over Reggie Bush is a joke.

Next: Double Man Law, no, make it Triple Man Law, don't do whatever Burt Reynolds did to his face.

Next: If TU hires for its next coach anybody we've heard of, it's a bad move. PS: If TU hires a certain assistant off a nearby team, we, the Picker, will move to another time zone.

Next: The best show on television, The Shield, returns March 12.

Next: Why do so many players fair catch punts inside the ten-yard line?

Next: If OU's womens basketball club is a final four team, we'll frame and put up in our kitchen a picture of Bob Stoops, as so many other media members probably have done. The problem with the OU women: lack of speed.

Next: The Sports Blitz Comedy Show airing Sunday nights on the CBS outlets in Oklahoma City and Tulsa had OU ranked fifth in the nation next year! Laughed until we got the hiccups.

Next: Announcer update. Collinsworth is good. Madden and Michaels are the best. Nantz and Simms are horrendous. Simms' announcing reminds us of the dentist's scene in "Marathon Man," where tooth-drilling is done without a pain killer. Simms' shrill and whining tone could penetrate to the earth's core. He never stops talking even though he has nothing to say. Woe is everybody, he's doing the Super Bowl. Buy radio batteries.

It seems the fates have conspired against TU. This honestly seems like one of only a rare handful of jobs he would bolt for. It just seems too good for him not to. But he is not to blame. No, I blame Michael Vick. Yep, I blame the "coach killer" himself. He set off the dominoes.

Larry Coker is the only name I've heard. Who else is out there?

Yeah, Mr. Nice Guy Coker, plus the usual suspects, high school exes, nearby coordinators.....where's the AD from, Notre Dame? The only way to go is the road successfully travelled: great, young assistant. Hiring fired guys is not exactly uplifting, is it?

If Blankenship's name is even mentioned, I just might shoot myself.

Seriously, a good rule of thumb is if you've ever heard of them, it's big trouble.

I too laughed at the #5 ranking of OU on Sports Blitz. I couldn't believe they gave them less than an A for their loss at the Fiesta Bowl. It is ridiculous that Dallas didn't have a new holder by now. Although I never predicted this sad twist of fate for the Cowboys, I did worry that little Martin might send a wild boot into Romo's passing hand.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
