More Raises for OU Coaches?
Published: 12/3/2011 10:34 PM

Remember the USC fiasco, when OU was accused of wanting to go home early?

This was another big-time stinker.

This was worse, this was in-state.

How many yards did OSU get against the Venables Einstein defense, a thousand?

Landry Jones doesn't need another year in school. He needs two more years in school.

Before the OU homers start wailing about Mike Stoops coming back to save the program, check out these numbers: 37, 37, 56, 48, 37, 42, 34, 48, 37. Those are the points his alleged defense gave up at Arizona.

As we have been saying for years, something new is needed down there, something outside the good 'ol boys coaching club.

Should OSU play in the final game against LSU?

One hundred percent yes, it's the only thing that makes sense.

The airplane nightmare the day of OSU's only loss was a major factor.

Note to the OU band. When you're being meat-cleavered by 40 points, maybe go a touch lighter on the school song.

Maybe Wagoner's defense would have been a tougher test for OSU. They don't seem to have any problems with busted assignments or lack of effort.

Guess that's what happens when you make bold preseason predictions. When it doesn't work out, the rest of the season goes down the drain.

I was about to pop an artery listening to that awful boomer sooner song with us up by 41.

So what is OSU's song, "For Once In My Life"?

Glad to see the return of the OSU run game. It is hard to believe that ISU shut it down after watching what Randle and Smith did tonight. I would have liked to have seen a little more Herschel Sims than just the mop up duty, but glad to see balance return to the game plan.

Let's hope the BCS voters were paying attention. I don't think there is anyway to measure the impact of the plane crash on the team's ability to get in game time form for ISU.

Thanks for proving my point from the other day....homer. Hold on tight so you don't get thrown off the bandwagon.

I don't know who the "we" are who have been saying something new is needed in Norman, but if something is so very wrong down there, and has been for years, why did it take OSU 9 years to finally get another win against OU? I guess things have been so bad there in Norman that OU has won 5 out of the last 8 Big 12 Championships and 8 of the last 9 Bedlam games.

Rather sad that you've become the same homer that you've so often chided other media mouthpieces for being. I hope Santa brings you a mirror for Christmas.

OU injuries obviously played a part, however, OU never is motivated by "Shared Conference Championships". They played uninspired football and a motivated OSU team whipped their tail. End of story.
PS; Whatever changes need to be made in Norman, Stoops should swallow the bitter pill and fire whomever, even Venables. Next year it could be him packing his bags.

Injuries should be only a VERY SMALL factor. When you continously have have top 10 recruiting classes, there should not be that big of a drop off between your #1 and #2 players. If anything blame Stoops philosophy of keeping starters in the entire game....

Apologies for the double post.

Hats off to OSU. You managed to work your way to the top of the lowly Big12 after losing to a team that went 6-6. Big deal. Be happy to go someplace warm for a bowl and play a team you can beat. Leave LSU to the big boys. You aren't even close to being the caliber of a top-level SEC team.

Lead-foot Landry Jones doesn't need more time in school - he needs to graduate and do something besides play football. I've told you all year the guy is a hack...his play at OSU was appalling which has pretty much become the standard for him.

Yak-it-up OU has taken a quantum leap backward with play that resembles teams of the John Blake era. They are pathetic in all phases. Next year will be more of the same...

It might be time for a coaching change at OU, and not just the assistants. I personally think too many of the beat writers are afraid to go after Stoops because, heaven forbid, he will cut them off from information and interviews with him and his players. Let's face it, most of the practices are already closed, so they don't want to say anything too critical, or they will be shut out completely. As an OU fan, getting beat doesn't bother me as much as having a team that did not show up to play in too many games this year--Missour, KU, and Tech. I saw this blow out coming and if any good comes out of it, then maybe there will be some changes in Norman.

I don't know that it should be a coaching change, but a change in their recruiting strategy would be nice. I think that coaches too often get caught up in going after the multi-star recruits with the best 40 times and don't pay any attention to intangible attributes like work ethic, toughness, intelligence, and character. What good is talent when a player costs his team the game because he wasn't ready to play?

The coaches also need to eliminate on field mistakes. Pointing the finger at the players and chewing them out will not solve the problem. The coaches need to either simplify everything or do a better job of teaching everything (both would be nice).

Hey Pick, as the game was ending last night, my son said the same thing, "it's time for Stoops and his good buddy Boren to get together and add about 3 more years and $3 million to Stoops' contract." I hear Bob is ready to build an addition to his hotel...er...home.

Thank goodness Ohio St hired Meyer. Still, Stoops/Boren can use the openings at Texas A&M and Penn St for extortion...er...leverage.

By the way, regarding the BCS championship game, none of the stats matter (OSU has 2 top ten wins, Bama, OSU actually won their conference, Bama couldn't win their division with a HOME game against LSU). Smug, condescending Herbstreit says Bama passes his "eyeball test" and they are better than OSU. I propose that next season, there are no rankings and no keeping score so, when the season ends, Herbstreit can tell us goobers what two teams pass his eyeball test.

agree.... who made Herbstreit the one who passes judgement??? Oh right, the idiots at espn...

Rather than a change in coaching staff, change in philosophy might be the first step - look at next year's verbal commits. As usual, 4 - 6 defensive ends, a few receivers, and ONE - yes, ONE !, defensive back. O-linemen and db's make great teams. Brent V seems to think that Roy's still out there but he's just not executing. Coach the players you have, not the players you wish you had.

Why did Josh have Quandry throwing the intermediate and longer stuff instead of short, quick-hitting strikes on first down? The short first down stuff is almost always available under our style of defense. Hit those and then run the dang ball, even with Bell from their own 35.

Quandry ball featuring over the middle attempts to guys that can't catch, and a game plan that essentially removes Bell from the offense, is a mystery for the ages. A close second is, "Why did Stoops not effort to change it before mentioning it to Josh at halftime?"

On another note, I must say that the OU players presented themselves as anything but proud defending champions before the game. They appeared geaked, jacked, and intimidated, as if offering to throw down and trying to bad-boy oSu was their only chance of competing.

Watching the members of such a once-proud program, whose defensive leader proclaimed "National championship or Bust" in the pre-season, only to go dark with the media following the Taco fiasco, trash talk the oSu cheerleaders before the game, was sadly pittiful.

Note to OU fans: We understand you have won 7 national championships as you remind often. Consider living in the present. Can you shut up and let OSU fans have a little fun for a change? Doubtful, but give it a shot.

When it comes to OU, it seems they have a bias vs instate players, as if they have to be twice as good as out of state players to get offered. The alltime blunder, and evidence of this: DID NOT EVEN OFFER JUSTIN BLACKMON!!!!
LaffALot (last year)
Another bias? IF OU Had OSU's record, lost to Iowa St, & beat OSU by that 44-10 score. I guarantee, there would have been enough movement, pr, etc. fot the BcS to place OU in that champ game vs. LSU over 'Bama
