NCAA golf: No. 1 seed curse claims a new victim

After Oklahoma State finished in a third-place tie during the stroke play portion of the 2011 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships, Cowboy freshman Talor Gooch said, “Some people might say that’s kind of bad luck to win the stroke play part.”
Guess what? Some people are right.
OSU won the stroke play segment of the national tournament each of the past two seasons, but failed to win a national championship.
UCLA won the stroke play portion of the 2011 tournament. Care to guess what happened next?
The top-seeded Bruins were ousted by eighth-seeded Duke in the first round of match play Friday. Anybody want to be the low team in stroke play next year?
