NFL Or Bust?
Published: 5/27/2009 4:10 PM
Last Modified: 5/27/2009 4:10 PM

Which quarterback will make the best NFL player:

(a) Sam Bradford.
(b) Tim Tebow.
(c) Colt McCoy.

Talk about three Joe Colleges -- these guys are perfect for university ball.

Bradford is almost reminiscent of a Leach qb with all the spread formation snaps. Great with the short stuff, fantastic with the long lobs. Not the strongest arm or legs. He seems to have an even temperment. Maybe too even. He needs to put on some muscle and take some snaps under center, NFL-style. Hopefully his offensive line won't cost him.

Tebow and his cute little jump passes wouldn't cut it in Arena 5 ball. He's apt to quit running at Florida this year, and attempt to prove he's a drop-back passer in roadrunner clothing. And Florida will suffer. ESPN's coverage of Tebow is apt to make a person ill to his or her stomach.

McCoy is sneaky and tough. Whereas the first two don't remind us of any current NFL quarterback, McCoy seems to have a little of the cool Brees in him.

We'd rate the NFL prospects in the following order.

1. McCoy.
2. Bradford.
3. Mr. Wonderful.

Tattoo,

Do you get email notification when Picker posts blogs.

Is this all you do, loser?

Regards,
Nit Picker
DeafRon (4 years ago)
I don't see the relavency of comparing the future riches of athletes with the salaries of those who write about them. Does anyone posting here make more money than Bradford is going to?
Not defending the wonderful Picker, but he writes about sports, just a different angle than some are used to. Those with anger management issues should see how their posts look here in these blogs. Simply amazing.
Picker will that be lunch or are you sending a check this time?
buster (4 years ago)
Vern, you are a funny man, tatoo keep posting, and why are you getting attacked by OPMN? Picker you are the only reason I used to buy the thursday Tribune. Congrats on making money by being a "Unknown insult comic".
MexiMike (4 years ago)
Bradford has to prove his toughness.

Tebow has to prove he can actually throw the ball with some sort of accuracy.

McCoy has to prove he can throw more than just a slant to Shipley.
BobSmith007 (4 years ago)
What an interesting comparison. While most are comparing Bradford to Manning...you go with Manning's alter-ego, Leaf. It's like your doing it just to cause a stir. But, no, you wouldn't do that. Whatever the merits of the three. When comparing them to each other, I don't for a second believe you believe that McCoy will make a better pro. Nice try though.

Buster says Vern’s a funny man? Just as Gene talked about turning off the remote to not watch NBoringA, for someone who is ALWAYS critical & Jealous of da’Snicker, Why does Vern continue to read & post here? It’s like a bad commercial that’s on all the time. Talk about Anger Mgt issues…..

Teebow is the better of those other 2 as a college QB. As a pro, who knows? Robinson of OSU seems to display some of that “find ways to win’ attitude to.

Vern I agree 100% with your comment.
IraqVet0608 (4 years ago)
Idont think any of them will be as good as we want them to be...I mean come on the NFL is the best of the best, the d-backs are better and the safeties have better hands...but the same goes for the offense.
I see Mcoy being the best out of the starting gate with Bradford coming from behind and surpasing him with time...Tebow will be around but I dont think he will dominate (Think Big Ben)...dont get me wrong He will be good but tebow will be shadowed by Brady, the Mannings and hopefully Bradford and Mccoy
The Picker (4 years ago)
IraqVet: You home, hopefully?

The unbelievable Texas non-conference schedule (Louisiana-Monroe, Wyoming, El Paso, Central Florida), and the way the BCS cheated Tex, will have McCoy right at the top of the Trophy race.

DeafRon: We get some beauts here, all right. Vern and Tattoo think guys who are on the OU payroll are objective sports journalists. They pretend they weren't amazed when we went 20 of 21 against the pointspread to end the football season.

NBA note: How about this final, Orlando-Denver.

The rating would be 8. People.

Somebody from the league office is probably on the phone with the refs right now, concerning the 25 more free throws LeBron should have had. Cleveland probably wins three straight. How about that pick, yahoos.
The Picker (4 years ago)
Bob Smith: If McCoy beats OU most times in college, why might that not suggest that he will be as good if not better than Bradford in the pros?

Was Texas the better TEAM?

Was Mack the better COACH?

What gives with Texas taking charge with OU?
OutPickMyNose (4 years ago)
Sure Tattoo, whatever makes you feel better buddy.

I mean, it's not like you went through the Picker's old blogs to see what I posted and then responded...wait....yes you did.

What a little child you are. Obsession can be a bad thing buddy.

Now, go ahead and say something original like "OPMN, did you get an email about me posting".

Geez. I bet you get all of your jokes from the Jimmy Fallon Show.
Gene M (4 years ago)
At the moment when Tebow wins his first Super Bowl, Bradford will be a PR man for an Indian casino and McCoy will be selling autos at an Austin dealership.
C.E.O. (4 years ago)
Are you kidding? tebow just wants to settle down around San Fransisco and find a good husband.
MexiMike (4 years ago)
Still holding onto the supposed "20 out of 21" eh, Pick? It turns out that the comparison to a 50 year old still wearing his ill-fitting high school football jacket holds more water than anyone thought it would.

"Remember when I hit 20 of 21?!" is starting to sound a lot like "Remember when I scored that TD in the District championship?!"

Oh, the glory years...
BobSmith007 (4 years ago)
Perfect logic, Pick. Makes a lot of sense.

I just don't believe you believe it.
The Picker (4 years ago)
How do you characters like the Cleveland pick now?

One down, two to go.

Tomororrow night in Florida, LeBron shoots 63 free throws, making 58 of them as the NBA orchestrates an invigorating Cav victory!
The Picker (4 years ago)
Rocket, I wouldn't bet Bird with your money, the problem being that at a mile and a half, it's hard to come from last to first.

The filly probably won't run. No need to.

That makes Mr. Warren's horse, Charitable Man, the one to beat.
Gene M (4 years ago)
Rocket, while you're at the simulcast, you might think about a small wager on Chocolate Candy as a "saver". Charitable Man throws up a stinker whenever he runs -vs- real competition.
Gene M (4 years ago)
As I understand it, OU moved a home game to a site called "Cowboy Stadium", in the Great State of Texas. If they play two games there next year and three the year after, will the OU "homers" be required to rent apartments in Dallas during the season to avidly support the team? Think how convenient that will be for the OU/Texas match-up.
MexiMike (4 years ago)
Yet another BRILLIANT prediction from the Picker who claimed that the Cav's would get to the finals by winning the final 3 games of the series.

Didn't you also predict in an earlier blog that the Cav's would win it all? I believe you also scoffed at my prediction that the Lakers would take the title.

Would you care to make any revisions, apologies, or congratulations?

Come on, Pick. Be the bigger man. You can bask in victory but can you be honorable in defeat?
Arbythree (4 years ago)
The comparison to Al Bundy with the Picker was an insult to Al Bundy.
Deep In The Heart (4 years ago)
tattoo,

This article was about the QB potential. McCoy wasn't even on the field when Crabtree made the catch.

Definition of choking: An offense that some touted as the "best ever" scoring an average 50+ points per game only scores 14 in the Big One. (That's a 70% drop - CHOKE)

The question is: Will Bradford remain the only only Heisman winner to never win a bowl game? I'm betting yes.
Ignatz (4 years ago)
Deep, lots and lots of Heisman winners never won a bowl game. The Heisman goes back to when there weren't that many bowls and some winners played on losing teams (John David Crow, A& M, comes to mind). I seem to remember the award is given to the best college player, not the best at winning bowl games college player.
The Picker (4 years ago)
Deep in the Heart: See what we're up against here on an hourly basis.

Gene: Chocolate Candy couldn't outrun me. Haven't I taught you anything? When it competition, you can't blame a horse for winning, Gene. You want CC vs. Charitable Man for the 125 beers you owe me?
Gene M (4 years ago)
Mr. Picker, I thought it was only 82 beers and, "YES" to your proposal. Candy has run -vs- much better competition than Charitable Man. The Peterpan had the weakest filed in memory so that tells us nothing.
