Name One Reason Why Stoops Wouldn't Stay
Published:

Many people have been acting like Stoops is doing everybody a big favor by staying at OU.
Here are ten reasons why he'd be wacky to leave for anywhere.
10. Soft conference.
9. Losing all those road games doesn't matter.
8. Gets to keep same old coaches forever.
7. Record of 7-5 doesn't matter.
6. No competition of note from Oklahoma State.
5. Earns insane salary.
4. Losing all those BCS bowls doesn't matter.
3. Losing four of the last five to Texas doesn't matter.
2. Can do no wrong to adoring media.
1. Winning a national championship almost a decade ago, by defeating a bum (Florida State), with a coaching staff long since gone, is worth a free pass, good for 25 years.

Pick,
You need to keep your mouth shut because you are an OSU fan(alum). Get rid of Gumby so you can talk!! It's a shame that OU beat OSU because it took money away from the big 12, but maybe it just shows how bad Gumby really is as a coach.
Ignatz

CL, no, "Picker" is an OU grad and played baseball for the Sooners. I agree with all his statements and would only add one.."A better deal hasn't come along yet."

Stoops would be crazy to leave OU for Notre Dame. With a combination of the 85 player scholarship limit and Notre Dame's high academic standards, ND is not as easy to win at as people might think. Stoops can recruit whomever he wants to OU, as long as the recruits meet the bare minimum NCAA standards.
Ignatz
tatoo, are you referring to someone else named "Ignatz?" I never, ever said Stoops is a poor coach or that OU had a poor program. In fact prior to OU-OSU "game" I posted that Gumby would be outcoached, and he obviously was. I root for TU and like every other sports fan in the State have to follow OU football because that is the only "sport" most folks around here have any interest in whatsoever. OU is obviously the best team in the State since it held the other two major programs scoreless. As for "Picker" he used to spend a lot of time at various race tracks and he wasn't there for the ice tea.

10. Conference was on par with SEC last year.
9. Overall record 3rd best among actives.
8. Many have moved on, the rest are fine.
7. Close losses due to injuries. Refer to #9.
6. Has no bearing on OU job.
5. They all do.
4. Got us there.
3. Winning record against Texas.
2. Every top program deals with good/bad media.
1. National Championships aren't handed out like candy. OU has averaged 1 every 9-12 years or so, which means we should expect another one any year now.
The Picker
Masked, keep the hood on, you don't want to be saying stuff like the Big 12 was on a par with the SEC in public.
There is no softer media than this one.
Regarding Texas, we're not talking about ancient history.
Loopy Les won a national title TWO YEARS AGO and some LSU people are already tired of the wacky coaching.
Glenn616

"10. Conference was on par with SEC last year."
Mask, the SEC beat the Big 12 in two bowl games last year. Ole Miss beat Texas Tech 47-34, and Florida beat OU 24-14. I don't think the Big 12 was on par with the SEC last season.
soonerguy

Picker, I assume you are implying that OU should wake up and run off coach Stoops?
If that IS what you are implying, who exactly would you recommend OU replacing him with.
The Masked Assassin
Yeah, on par, Glenn. Two bowl games does not a season or conference make, especially when they were fairly close games. The Big 12 was easily as good, top to bottom. Even if you think we were not quite as good, that hardly makes us a "soft conference".
Ignatz

tattoo, you need some therapy or meds for your anger issues.
The Masked Assassin
You're right Pick, we're not talking about ancient history, we're talking overall record during Stoops' tenure. The only way to look at it. (Except for people trying to play an angle.) I'll take beating Texas slightly more often than they beat us, any day. As far as Lucky Les goes, who cares. He's an idiot. Bob's not. There's the difference.

Hey Picker,
How many championships have you won?
The Picker
Hey Vsslwc, I've won six championships.
And was runnerup twice.
soonerguy

No answer?
My point exactly.
Chance

I'm an OSU fan so I'm not an OU homer by any means, but Stoops has done alot for OU. He's won 5 (is that right?) Big 12 championships and gone to 4 national championships total. Yeah, he's lost the last 3, but last I checked getting there is better than not getting there at all.
That being said, Texas is sneaking up on them, and if they win a national championship this year and/or start winning more Big 12 championships, the question of "what have you done for me lately" will be more valid.

I don't agree that a 7-5 record doesn't matter...Too many and he will be run out.

Picker - Sometimes you are humorous, and sometime you're simply annoying in your attempt to get OU/OSU/TU fans embroiled in a rage of posts. It must have something to do with how many posts you can illicit from angry readers or even some who agree with you. For sure, you are different and at times, on the mark. Will you ever reveal your identity or the school you hail from? Or do all Tulsa World Sports reporters rotate the nice reporter, bad reporter column known as the "Picker"?

When do we see "HOMER OF THE YEAR AWARD"? I nominate Klein and Haisten.
The Big E
(Nose) Picker,
It is easy and cowardly to hide behind a personna and repeatedly critique another's professional achievements. (Speaking of which, since you are so obsessed with the Coach's track record, how many Pulitzer or whatever professional awards you "writers" hand out to each other have you won?)
Even if you discovered the courage to respond, I wouldn't believe a word you said-- after all, you pass your time masquerading in fantasy land. I guess that is what one does when they have nothing of any tangible or intellectual value to contribute.
I guess I do have to give you some credit for fooling any rag, including this one, into putting you on the payroll.
The Picker

Soonerguy: It seems clear to anybody but an OU cheerleader that the Stoops regime is experiencing something of a dip: Recent ownership by Texas, rotten road record, lousy BCS bowl record.
The thought here is that a correction or two might be necessary, perhaps a new assistant and a new thought or two, perhaps a more mobile quarterback, not an option hospital case, but somebody who can get out of the way.
If wishful thinking could cure things, the various losing streaks wouldn't exist, would they.
Run somebody in, not out, all the money they have.
eglkeeper
Da' Picker gets it, mobile-athletic QB is needed since the defenses now days have learned to shut down the spread O and by the way are quite athletic, duh.
No balance, no run threat real or implied, no situational adaptability, aka coaching, has been the demise of OU this year, get off the injury train, geez.
Closing; I here by nominate the soonerguy, Da Big E and tatoo for 2009 "Keyboard Commandoes" of the year for their exemplary ability to throw out dream induced - funk driven, say that 3 times fast, statistics. hollah...

Tattoo,
OSU's "best team ever"?
That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen you OU homers post.
When OSU lost all Big 12 rusher Hunter for basically 7 games andarguably top 3 best players in the country, Dez, they certainly werenot even close to that.
I guess that is the OU way of trying to make yourselves feel better about your crappy season.
The only person who can dish any trash talk and can't take it is you, moron. You post 23 times on these blogs and try to outpost everyone, inorder to "prove" that you are right.
So, I will let you just post and post and post. Have fun with it, butjust remember, your lame excuses and silly arguments have no bearing onthe truth.
OSU's "best team ever" is just another form of excuse making by the countries best....OU fans.

Want to get a rise, and a lot of responses, bash Bob Stoops. Everyone has his (sorry girls) own opinion on what needs to be done better at OU. Only problem is that most of the opinion is post-event. Much easier to critcize a loss, than a win.
Oh wait, that's why Bob doesn't get that much critcism, he doesn't lose that much. Most schools would kill to see a national championship game live, much less to play in four of them in ten years.
You got what you wanted Picker, a rise. Only a true fool would be critical of the job Bob has done while at OU.
