National Signing Day: Reports say Arkansas commit's mom stole his letter of intent

Arkansas is making news on Signing Day, but not exactly for the reasons new head coach Brett Bielema would like.

In another episode of National Signing Day craziness, ESPN.com is reporting that Florida high school running back Alex Collins hasn't signed his letter of intent with Arkansas because his mother confiscated his paperwork before he could fax the documents to Arkansas.

According to ESPN, Collins had committed to Arkansas on Monday. He was also considering Miami, Florida and Florida State, schools his mother presumably would have been happier with because they are closer to the family's home near Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

National Signing Day, it seems, can bring out the crazy in some people.

Folks around Tulsa still talk about Calvin Barnett changing from a Oklahoma State-colored jacket into an Arkansas sweater on signing day, signaling a shocker that broke his six-month commitment to the Cowboys.

And Houston-area star running back Sam McGuffie skipped out on his signing ceremony five years ago, locking himself in his house and sending Michigan fans into a frenzy before eventually faxing his letter to the Wolverines late in evening.

The interesting thing about both Barnett and McGuffie: neither stuck around the school with which they signed.

Barnett went to junior college instead of Arkansas and later paid OSU back by signing with the Cowboys before last season.

McGuffie played as a freshman at Michigan, then transferred to Rice. He was a senior this year, scoring his team's first touchdown against Tulsa when he returned a blocked punt for a score.
