Nebraska Is Back
Published: 10/9/2009 2:26 PM

Having hit two multi-decade, multi-century locks before the frost is even on the pumpkin, here's another: Nebraska over OU.

Big time.

Nebraska is fantastic. Without the late flub at Virginia Tech, Nebraska would be ranked fourth nationally.

Its defense is the way it used to be around here -- aggressive, eager, enthusiastic, violent. It looks like what Pelini had at LSU, great front four, future pros in the secondary.

It had the best runner in the conference -- check late injury in second half Missouri mauling -- and has a solid and smart quarterback.

The coach is a perfect fit.

All those who said the conference would be better if Nebraska was good, well, run!

Pathetic ineffective offense for three quarters, then polished effective offense in the fourth quarter. If they ever put four great quarters together, look out.

Ndamukong Suh best d tackle in the country. Fast and relentess.

HVJ, you got it. Don't forget, they basically held Mo to zero in Columbia -- bad snap and lucky call.

Dcood, that guy is beyond belief, charging down the quarterback ten yards behind the line one play, covering a pass 20 yards the other way the next time. Major playmaker.

Bradford in Lincoln? Pass fast, Sam, pass fast.

I thought the secondary was sub-par under Pellini.  Sure Nebraska will beat OU; that's easy to say, but that's saying nothing this year.  Nebraska's not back.  If they get Texas in the Big 12, I suspect their wheels will fall off.  I'll even go further and call it the triple lock of the decade.

Nebraska is back after 1 game?Come on Picker even you know better than to stick your neck out like that.In regards to OU I think the definition of insanity is when you do the same things over and over and expect a different result. That is where I see this coaching staff.

You didn't watch the Va Tech game where Nebraska dominated the number 4 team in the country until the last minute?

Nebraska has that runner, it beats OU easily.
nascarisok (3 years ago)
Easy Dave you might want to calm down a bit.Let the season play through and then see where they are.

No brainer.  I haven't seen huskers in action yet but sooners are not a top 20 team this year.

Nebraska's Defense was consistently great throughout the entire game. The offense was inconsistent with the QB at times missing WRs and looking out of sink. However, the offense played great in the 4th quarter. If Nebraska can become consistent in its offense, especially with the QB position, the Huskers will be tough to beat. Note to the OU defensive coaching staff: Nebraska is a pass-first team.

Hey Picker!  You do realize that the Neb. game's a ways off right?  Very strange timing given their opponent THIS week.  To call that a lock at this point, with all the football to be played between now and then, is pretty crazy.  I guess we won't know what your definition of "big time" is until game week.

I don't think you can make that kind of judgement call about any team when they play a conference opponent in that kind of weather. They did play very well against Va Tech but in my opinion, Va Tech is overrated as well.

With Bradford back, OU is a different team. I don't think this game is a lock in Nebraska's favor by any means. As an OSU fan though, I sure wouldn't mind seeing another South team adding one to the loss column.

Pecker you and I must have watched different games because Nebraska's offense looked absolutely HORRIBLE through 3 quarters. Then in the 4th they were basically gift wrapped two touchdowns by pitiful INT throws from Missouri's QB. I will give you that their defense looked very impressive, but I saw absolutely nothing that scares me about Nebraska's offense.
The Picker (3 years ago)
MG Sooner, yeah, you're probably right, running Virginia Tech off its home field probably meant nothing, having an NFL tailback, probably means nothing. Beware of the game in Lincoln.

mgsooner (3 years ago)
I'd hardly say they "ran Virginia Tech off the field". They outgained them by 65 yards but lost the game. If your definition of running somebody off the field is outgaining them by 65 yards then I'd say that's a pretty liberal definition. Also, against the only two teams they've played with a pulse (Missouri and Va Tech) their QB completed less than 40% of his passes (25 for 63). Would it surprise me if OU lost in Lincoln? No. Is it a foregone conclusion that they will? Absolutely not. And it's bizarre and somewhat crazy to say so after a grand total of one conference game has been played by each team.

Texas Tech will beat Nebraska in Lincoln.
The Picker (3 years ago)
Buster, that is absolutely possible.

But Nebraska still beats OU in Lincoln.
juanstah (3 years ago)
Ooooohhhh Nebraska is back.  They almost made it a game against Texas Tech, in the first three minutes.  I bet Vegas is calling the Picker again for his unique insights.

Nebraska's back and poof just like that, they're gone again!!
