As a seventh-round pick of the New England Patriots, former Oklahoma State QB Zac Robinson wears jersey No. 7 as he attempts to impress his new coach, Bill Belichick.
Following a recent mini-camp session, the Attleboro (Mass.) Sun Chronicle quoted Belichick as saying, "(Robinson) played with a lot of good players (at OSU), but he's got a long way to go. His system is a lot different than what we run. But I think he showed some good qualities in terms of leadership and production, and being able to manage a team."
"He's a smart kid and he works hard at it," Belichick added. "I think he's got a good chance of getting it. It's just going to take a little longer."
Robinson, in camp with other rookie draftees and free agents, has not yet been introduced to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
"I'm definitely looking forward to it," Robinson said. "To be able to learn from him and all the success he's had, it's going to be great. I'm looking forward to just picking his brain and learning all I can."
Robinson set OSU career records for total offense, passing yards and touchdown passes, but "may be an NFL long-shot because of inaccuracy issues," the Sun Chronicle's Mark Farinella wrote. "The Patriots appear to be committed to him as a quarterback and not as . . . a wide receiver."
