Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said players cannot feel entitled to winning. They have to earn it.

That is the key to Stoops’ success at OU.

He doesn’t let his teams rely on the past. Just because Oklahoma has had success in football in the past doesn’t mean it is automatic for the current team.

The Sooners will enter the season ranked No. 1. No big deal to Stoops. He’s been there plenty.

However, he’ll remind his players that staying at No. 1 will require work and victories.

Some Stoops teams have stumbled because they felt they would win just because they are Sooners. However, history and tradition only helps to a certain point.

At some point, you have to make a play in that particular game at that moment.

No one from the 1975 team is there to help you.

Stoops has been good about making his teams realize that there is no substitute for hard work to get where they want. We’d expect the same this year.
