No preseason hoops ranking for state's Big 12 teams

Five Big 12 basketball teams are ranked in Blue Ribbon Yearbook’s preseason top 25, according to a press release issued Monday by the league’s p.r. department. No other conference placed more teams in the top 25.

The bad news for readers of this newspaper? Oklahoma and Oklahoma State aren’t among the ranked teams.

OU is coming off a losing season and is in the midst of an extensive roster overhaul.

OSU reached the NCAA Tournament each of the last two years, but was the only Big 12 South school never to be ranked last season. Coach Travis Ford said the Cowboys will be deeper and more athletic, but gone are Obi Muonelo and first-round draft pick James Anderson, who combined for nearly half of the team’s points last season.

The five ranked Big 12 teams are Kansas (No. 7), Kansas State (10), Baylor (16), Texas (18) and Missouri (20). Defending national champion Duke is ranked No. 1.
