Norman, Harrington Provided A Story Golf Needed

Tiger Woods has been driving ratings and attendance for pro golf for over a decade now.
His presence, and dominance, has provided a booster shot for golf.
The sport was looking for a superstar to take up where Jack Nicklaus left off.
Woods has certainly given golf a shot in the arm. His appearance at any tournament is an automatic ratings grabber and attendance boost.
So, his absence as he rehabs his leg has been a major worry for golf.
Greg Norman's great run in the British Open, although he didn't win, certainly helped to draw viewers on Sunday.
And, Padraig Harrington winning his second straight British Open helped.
But, the PGA Championship will remain a huge test for the sport of golf. The last of the this year's majors will go off without Woods.
That means once again golf's appeal to the ordinary sports fan will be test.
Getting a natural storyline like Norman making a run and Harrington's defense of his title was great for golf last weekend.
It needs another compelling story when the PGA is played next month.

John, all the media has Tiger "brains". Even last week as Harrington won, the media comments were if "Tiger had been here". For me, I think his absence will be good. The same guy winning every time is boring unless you are his mother.
