Not all Doom and Gloom for Sooners

Oklahoma could win the rest of its football games this season and finish 11-1.
Of course, that may not be any more likely than the Sooners stumbling a few more times and finishing with seven or eight victories. Or, as one writer suggested earlier this week, 6-6.
OU’s surprising home loss to Kansas State, when the Sooners were favored by two touchdowns, put extra emphasis on Oklahoma’s next several games.
Oklahoma goes to Texas Tech followed by the trip to Dallas to face Texas.
Win those two and there will be new hope for the season. Lose one or both the rest of the season would appear to be a real big struggle.
However, regardless of what happens, the loss to Kansas State is an indication of what the Big 12 Conference is this season.
There are as many as seven or eight teams in the Big 12 that are bunched relatively close in level of play.
In other words, the difference between winning and losing is pretty small. There is probably only one sure victory (Kansas) and a couple of other probables.
However, most Big 12 games are going to be tight.
That’s why it is so important for Oklahoma to fix its problems in a hurry. If things start going south, for any team in the Big 12, it could spin out of control.
Oklahoma is among the six teams that should have a chance to win the league. Losing to Kansas State just made that much more difficult.
However, it would be wrong to write off the Sooners. They have enough talent and the coaches have won enough Big 12 games in the last 13 years to make you believe a rebound this season is not out of the question.
