Landry Jones is on an all-time roll.
He quarterbacks what should be the nation's No. 1-ranked football team as the 2011 season dawns. He's an All-American candidate and a Heisman Trophy hopeful. He's a Big 12 and BCS bowl game champion. He even wins on the road!
But nothing, you hopeless romantics out there surely say, compares to this: He is also, according to social media, engaged to fellow Oklahoma star athlete Whitney Hand.
The Sooners' Wonder Couple became a little more official Sunday, at least according to Hand's Twitter page. There, as Hand's profile picture, is Jones on one knee, holding what appears to be a ring as Hand looks down with her hands cupped over her mouth.
Now this is taking a knee.
Call it the most important progression of Jones' career.
Jones hasn't confirmed the news on his Twitter page. Just that he loves Much Moore Sno snocones. And no, the Twitter page registered to Landry Jones' stache doesn't have any bulletins either, other than "I deserve my own commercial."
Hand is a little more willing to share. She posted a picture of the ring last night. (No, it's not Jones' 2010 Big 12 championship ring.) She also tweeted: "Thank you all for the sweet engagement wishes!!! We are so blessed by all of our sweet friends and can't wait for this journey!!!"
This morning, Hand posted: "I just want to say I gotta give it up to my teammates friends and fam for keeping it a secret… Still blown away!!!!!"
Last week, Jones' latest bit of football good news came from ESPN's Stats & Info department, which reminded everyone that "the last four quarterbacks to win the Heisman Trophy have all run the spread offense."
"The blueprint for a pocket passer to win the Heisman is simple," Sharon Katz blogged. "Put up big numbers and win games. With the Sooners projected to be one of the best teams in the country, Jones will have a chance to achieve both."
As promising as that sounds, something tells me what Jones achieved Sunday feels a wee more important to him than anything he accomplishes come fall.
